Can’t say I’ll use this much, but here I am.

I’m a sad gay folksinger trying to survive the end of the world.

I also taught the first major university course on Beyoncé and her impact — ran from 2010 to 2016 at Rutgers. Class turned into a book called Ain’t I A Diva? from Feminist Press (2019).
we celebrate people for doing way too little and crucify people for the slightest drop of the ball. all while trying to go viral. we are the problem. we create the problem then complain about it. whatever you do, just do better.

Bitter is one of the great albums of all time. Genius. The rest are spectacular, but Bitter is so so special.

The biggest thing we need to do is let people know that the protests are FUN. Yelling fuck the man is fun. You will meet fun people.

We also need to make them more fun. Bring grills like the French. Bring instruments like it’s Mardi Gras. Give people a reason to spend their weekend in the streets.

social media posts should be considered pollution in the digital landscape. only post when it’s necessary. your boring nonsense bullshit is the equivalent of throwing candy bar wrappers out the window of your car. don’t litter. be responsible.

I will never forgive Zoe Saldana for that irresponsible, disgusting blackface performance of Nina Simone. But congrats or whatever…

Here’s the thing. All the progress we’ve made from America’s inception til now is gone. We are STARTING OVER. America chose, democratically (unless someone can prove there was election interference), regression.

Things are sad and bleak. We have to start all the way over. That’s the reality.

Sinéad O’Connor deserved better than that. FUCK SNL.

America only learns about itself when artists shove America’s nose in it and asks them to reflect.

Kendrick gave a middle finger to America and Trump while also harnessing real American patriotism, way back before all the fascism. Told us all to organize around that, not the bullshit.

Fact.
Listen, I get some folks didn't get the message cause it wasn't masked in sparkle and fireworks, but in front of that orange satan, KDOT put on a great both one of the Blackest halftime (first true hip hop headliner, right?) in one of the BLACKEST cities in the country no less (love my hometown).

how are you gonna be part of the revolution when you can’t even return a text message without having a panic attack?
January 29, 2025 at 6:50 PM
where are all the big bad Leftists mounting a resistance campaign to Trump?

seriously…where are you? you wanted the revolution, you wanted accelerationism, and i hear NOTHING about next steps. it was all so unserious from the beginning…

LinkedIn? I’d rather kill myself.

We’ve been trained by social media to anticipate audience reaction and temper statements for the least pushback. We’re all complying automatically without even realizing. And yet we’re surprised at this fascist takeover of everything.

We’re all ADDICTED to social media and we need to start talking about it in these terms because none of this is healthy or normal.
January 23, 2025 at 12:28 AM
I’m having a real “come to Jesus” moment with my own social media use.

While it’s become the primary way to get your voice out into the world and noticed, every post also lines the fascist pockets of piece of shit billionaires.

I don’t think I can do this anymore.

in america, good ideas have to fight against very dumb people and very dumb opinions just to be considered as relevant. the median audience in america is stupid as fuck. and the worst tendencies get the most attention. trying to make progress is damn near impossible, but we keep trying.

Just saying that out loud to remind myself for 2025.

i feel like social media has become counter to progress. it was useful for a time, but now just amplifies misinformation on all sides before facts can be gathered or presented. we‘be been programmed that immediacy trumps validity.
