Very happy with this #raven pic, looks almost like a photogram, suitably moody and dark for the season.

was reading about James Blythe and the first wind turbine he buit in 1887 (yes you read that right) in Simon Winchester’s new book. Winchester also suggests that the fossil fuel industry of the day (the coal barons) were behind spreading rumors that Blythes electricity was ‘work of the devil’ […]

For the first time in several months(since August?), the cat and I have the house to ourselves.

My parther got summoned into the office for two days for some team demoralizing events and a dinner. Fortunately, she's finally at a decent point, health-wise, to be walking around a bit more […]

It's taken almost a decade of careful research; but, in the last month, I think I've finally found the magical spot that will get our cat, Anu, uncontrollably "scratching" herself with her hind leg.

After careful consideration of various neck, shoulder, chest, and chin scritch positions, I have […]

It's probably time to get rid of the previous four seasons of christmas wreaths. *sigh*

Someone in the house needs their holiday TV special heroin.

Please don't tell anyone that I am angry for not being able to cancel Netflix right this very minute. I am not angry.

Silly Fucking Funky White Boys.

Ignoring the ghastly cover of "Don't Rain on my Parade", Japan's 1978 debut "Adolescent Sex" has got a great swing and punk swagger for a band that would become New Romantic darlings and launch David Sylvian's career.

Spent several hours today, walking around, hallucinating that it was Sunday.
After a bit my partner, unknowingly, dis-abused me of this notion.

The day, and tomorrow, opened up! An extra day? A whole extra evening to play and lounge about?!? Huzzah!

Mark Fisher | Acid Communism (Unfinished Introduction)

"Populations are resigned to the sadness of work, even as they are told that automation is making their jobs disappear. We must regain the optimism of that Seventies moment, just as we must carefully analyse all the machineries that capital […]

After all this time, #anu has finally managed to help us out with our productivity.
Definitely keeping us motivated. A bit of a kitty #pomodoro reminder to take regular breaks.

Working my way into the impending spirit of the holidays:

- Making gravy, stuffing, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, green beans, and pumpkin pie.
- Rockin' out to "Arthur Baker presents Breaker’s Revenge – Original B-Boy and B-Girl Breakdance Classics 1970-84"
- Running #nox tests against a […]

Part of my enjoyment of watching foreign films with subtitles is not having to listen to English speaking people yammering at me when I want to relax and, partially, passively enjoy the visuals as they unfold.

Most of the time, the language just washes over me like part of the soundtrack, an […]

Cool. Moving into the #docker phase of upgrading my #django projects, I think I may have a little blog post in me for those "collation version mismatch" errors when upgrading between minor versions of #postgresql.

I've taken decent notes & feel mildly productive.

Dreaming towards possible improbable futures seems more tolerable than wailing and gnashing against an intolerable present.

This too will come to pass.

As a parent of a married 20-something child, I'm beginning to appreciate being able to live vicariously through them and their tales of holiday travels and visiting in-laws.

As a recluse and a general homebody, this is what I am thankful for this year. Not travelling. 🤣

I have no ecommerce site of my own and likely never will. I'm intending to use eBay. But I want to offer folks here first shot so I don't want to put the eBay page up.

There are ten units for sale. $90 each. There's no rational way to price these 10 […]
