As such people disable shadows, disable objects, run lower resolutions, etc. and there’s really not much benefit because the performance is still suffering from the overly large CPU hit from our current renderer’s architecture, which has roots all the way back to DirectX 7.

Without getting too into the weeds - So much logic to simply deal with which triangles to draw on the screen is tied into the CPU we are suffering in the modern GPU-is-king world of PC gaming.

Although we’ve been constantly building and improving our current renderer, it has inherent issues which severely hinder the performance achievable in modern graphics architectures.
