Time was that travel was a civilised affair. Alas. On the other hand, while standards still exist, it's good to know that there are others out there who continue to uphold them. This gives me strength. Onwards!

This is a very strong opinion and I endorse it

This reminds me of when I was a student and my mate's Dad had what today would be called a side hustle installing flagpoles. I joined them once and got paid £50 to dig a big hole and plant one in some guy's garden in West Wittering. We spent all of it in the pub on the way home. A 10/10 day.

The hill I will absolutely die on is that however much garlic the recipe calls for, you should at * least * quadruple it, and if there is no recipe, the correct amount is "shitloads". People are so afraid of their taste buds

This is so on point, and of course I've only just thought about the fact that it doesn't exist any more.

Thank you! This is the celestial instruction I needed.

Sparing the long and painful backstory, this reminds me of when Sky told me that in order to fix my appalling wifi I simply needed to ring up Openreach and command them to install fibre in my neighbourhood more quickly, and acted as if I were an idiot for not having done so sooner.

This is a robust and appropriate way to spend a Friday night, I salute your end-of-the-world-is-nigh choices.

As a friend of mine would say: trebles all round!

I mean I don't mean to besmirch an august institution, but frankly I was shocked to find out you weren't already a Fellow! Happily this wrong has been righted, so despite the obvious my faith in the world can continue.

Congrats Matt, delighted for you.

Marie Le Conte, you have so very many good opinions, and this is one of them

Walking Eastbound down the South Bank is always the most civilised way to arrive at London Bridge I feel

For the whisky - mix it in equal measures with amaretto and a chunk of ice. Add an orange slice. Mind-blowingly good, and will definitely sate your sweet tooth (NB this will only really work if the whisky isn't peaty). Enjoy!

...which in turns suggests a glaringly obvious way to amend text or speech to help prevent stuff being picked up in the first place, by inserting any of the banned words. It'd basically be a self-imposed spam filter, except you actually want the spam

and just up the road from this excellent local landmark I can report that in what I am going to interpret wildly optimistically as a sign that everything is going to be OK, last month someone fixed the clock tower. Again: fabulous.

Age is part of it, for sure, but that has almost completely disappeared, for various reasons the internet has commented on, and I find it very sad

One of the glories of London in the beforetimes was being able to message a couple of people you knew at 5pm on a Friday, and by 6pm about five WhatsApp groups of people would be ordering pints in the same place with that anarchic week-end vibe, and by the end of the night you'd know NEW people

Precisely so. More people should visit Norwood Junction
