Zero minutes of sunshine so far this November for most of the British Isles. Northern Scotland in lee of mountains the only area with sunny weather, rest of us suffering from 'anticyclonic gloom'.

Some hope that an Atlantic front will clear the sky on Sunday.

A horseshoe crab from the 149 million year old Solnhofen Limestone, Bavaria. Label suggested this is where a crab molted its shell. Note the faint track below.

Horseshoe crabs great survivors, essentially unchanged from their debut in the Triassic.

Recently visited the Burgermeister-Muller museum in Solnhofen, Bavaria to see the dinobird Archaeoptryx, the earliest known feathered dinosaur. Well worth a trip.

Some Gardener's Delight tomatoes picked yesterday. Nothing unusual except these started off as side shoots from cordons growing in the greenhouse that were planted in a sunny spot in early July and left as bush plant. Warm and sunny late summer here in Berkshire has helped. 100s more to collect.

Spain and Portugal are wonderful places to see hirundines. Under this 80m long roof up to a 1000 house martin nests. As of 14th September all the nests were empty. From 100km west of Barcelona.
