I'm not sure how life expectancy comes into it? I heard that being mentioned by the contributor on Drivetime earlier. The crux of the issue for me is that if they can pay income taxes they should have a say in how it is spent. Many 16/17 year olds have a lot more sense than adults I know!

1. Voting isn't compulsory, so only those interested would vote.
2. Elections are every 5 years. A 17 yo not voting would be affected by the result for 4+ years of adulthood.
3. If there's a referendum would the 16 and 17 year olds be allowed vote in it? Even if their votes were counted separately?

'some roads' says the headline. I believe it's around 5000km of roads in Co. Galway alone.
