How Fran Morelli was killed in Kastav (perhaps a lesson for modern times)
Kastav had its law since 1400 granting citizens rights, but in 1666 the local potentate, “Captain” Fran Morelli made his own laws, ignoring the old rights (sound familiar?). They drowned him in this well.

1/4 It used to be in the long-ago 20th century that one of the major distinctions between Russia/the USSR and the US was our reliance on empirical facts and media vs the Russian tendency to place signs and words as primary, while what we call reality was irrelevant.
