Also, as of 2022 (the last year with complete statistics), the five countries which imposed capital punishment the most were, in descending order: China, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and the United States. Do we really want to be a part of this group?

I was a prosecutor (before a moratorium on the death penalty) and the thing that nagged me and my fellow prosecutors the most was the slight chance that the condemned could be proven innocent after he’s been executed. You get no do-overs when you’re putting people to death.
