Firebending is a perfect example of UB done right. Firebending gives you mana when a creature attacks, but it has to be used right away. It pairs perfectly with an old (from Alpha!) Magic: the Gathering mechanic, Firebreathing, that converts that mana into power. Inhale, exhale.

Played Battlestar Galactica for the first time in maybe 10 years. Still one of my favorites of all time. Such a good connection between theme and mechanics.

Tolkien specifically disliked allegory, so nothing in his work was intended as a direct stand-in. But he encouraged us as readers to find applicability in his work and there is certainly something here along those lines!
