For the sake of the long-suffering civilians, who have endured a singular hell, I hope the first phase of the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas goes ahead, even if it offers only temporary reprieve.

The “strong, durable, and everlasting peace” Trump believes is on the horizon is a pipe dream.

It was enlightening to hear from representatives of the Maasai people how carbon market projects are encroaching on their customary land rights, disrupting their traditional grazing patterns and fuelling conflict

No other president in the history of the United States has used so many superlatives to describe his own presidency as Donald Trump has.

Seeing as the United Nations building is international territory and the International Criminal Court has an arrest warrant out of Binyamin Netanyahu, does the UN have jurisdiction to arrest the Israeli leader while he is attending the General Assembly?

Donald Trump claims that climate change is "the greatest con job ever perpetrated on the world".

No, the climate crisis is very real. Climate denialism is one of the greatest con jobs since smoking was sold as being healthy.

This event delves into the under-reported human rights dimension of carbon market projects and the neglected perspective of local and indigenous communities.

Representatives of the Maasai will be in Brussels to share their experiences and insights.

The UK's "historic" recognition of Palestine is a meaningless sideshow so long as there is a genocide in Gaza. It is yet another excuse for inaction.

I always argued there was method to Donald Trump's madness. This has become chillingly apparent during his second term. The randomness of his first term has been replaced with a systematic attack on what's left of US democracy.

The only thing standing between him and his goal is popular resistance.

What is the common underlying factor behind the rise of authoritarianism and/or fascism in the US and numerous European democracies?

The untenable inequality that cause frustration and anger which are easily channelled towards scapegoats, such as women, minorities and other vulnerable groups.

There is one culprit implicated in the assassination of American hate preacher Charlie Kirk that remains a fugitive that the authorities are refusing to pursue but must stand in the dock: America's loose gun culture, which Kirk defended, and its absence of effective gun controls.

When Wright is wrong...

There is nothing "common sense" about what US Energy Secretary Chris Wright is trying to ram down the throats of the European Union.

☢️ The EU does not need more US gas or nuclear. Here's why 👇

United States Energy Secretary Chris Wright was in Brussels this week to campaign for EU policymakers to adopt what he called a “common sense” approach to climate and energy policy. But his pitch makes no sense… not for the EU and certainly not for the climate.

Here’s why:

Speaking with a Palestinian friend in Gaza was unbelievably saddening, disturbing and worrying. He is desperate to get out and be with his family but every avenue is blocked.

Donald Trump's decision to switch to a Department of War shows how naïve his supporters were to believe he would be the president of peace.

The 1947-8 Nakba shook to the core or helped lead to the fall of several Arab regimes.

The current Nakba could eventually do the same not just in the Middle East but also in Europe.

The scientific verdict is in.

Global warming made this summer's wildfires in Turkey, Greece and Cyprus 10 times more likely and 22% more intense. Without the climate crisis, such intense wildfires would be a once-in-a-century occurrence.

The Belgian government is wasting precious time engaging in Byzantine debates about whether or not to recognise a Palestinian state.

This is a distraction. What the situation demands are sanctions against Israel, both national and European, until the war ends and the blockade on Gaza is lifted.

How many journalists has Israel killed in Gaza?

More than were killed during WWI, WWII, Vietnam, Yugoslavia and the US invasion of Afghanistan combined.

Yet Palestinian journalists continue to put their lives on the line to report the horrors in Gaza.

We are now witnessing manmade famines in Gaza and Sudan. And what is manmade can be unmade. But the world is failing to lift a finger.

Disgraceful!

"We do not want to have these crimes made in our name," an Israeli protester told Sky News.

It's encouraging to see so many Israelis take to the streets across the country and go on strike in opposition to the catastrophic war in Gaza. May they succeed in ending this madness.

Besieged civilians are dying of starvation and the world is ignoring their plight.

This is the situation not just in Gaza but also in al-Fashir, Darfur. The Sudanese people deserve better.

Australia joins a growing group of western countries who have indicated their intention to recognise a Palestinian state.

This gesture politics does nothing to help the starving, destitute and traumatised people of Gaza.

The most urgent priority now is to free Palestinians from this genocidal war

In this essay on Belgium's rightward drift, I explore the paradox of how a loose alliance of nativist far-right nationalist movements on both sides of the Atlantic have resulted in a kind of white internationalism.
