oh I forgot I was leaving the 4000 nits roll off curve of the LG set on so that why it doesn't look as blue on my TV, but that's weird that the black floor was raised quite a lot in SDR

Probably not a good comparison but the 1st pic of each is captured in HDR and then converted to SDR by the Xbox, and the 2nd pics of each is native SDR with everything left at 50 and image encoding is sRGB

and when HDR removed the brightness cap then it reveals the details weren't meant to be seen, it gives me that feeling but I don't know for sure since I'm not a dev

it's still not perfect by any means but the color shift that I saw in John's video is not presence on mine, it still has issues like Horizon Forbidden West where the top end highlights looks weird at times, it's almost like it was made for SDR and weren't meant to be visible

That's what I was thinking when I saw John's video on DF, and then I got the game and it looks quite alright, so it's either they fixed it with the day one patch or something happened in John's video that messes up the color palette

yeah it has really poor color science in HDR, the sky turns yellow the higher peak brightness you set it at, and there are tons of color banding in low saturation scenes like the overcasted and blizzard on the mountain part, tons of artifacts and issues in that game

do you also make HDR mod for the original Death Stranding? I found the HDR in that game is really atrocious

yeah I tried to level out the contrast with the settings above, I tried to match the look in the shadow and midtone of SDR since I don't like how the default settings look, the raised black is aggressive but I don't see any banding or gradation issue like Silent Hill 2 so I'm kinda settled on it

I'm on console so I can't try out the mods, but my point is that the game does have raised black level in SDR as well and in the later area it does drop into a lower black level and it behaves the same way on both modes, so saying the game's HDR is broken is not true imo

also this is the settings I used for Cronos, I tried to follow the native default tone mapping curve of the LG C4 OLED so I set the dynamic tone mapping to off. At least on my TV this yield a consistent tone between HDR & SDR in the shadow and midtone.

I found
the raised black exists in SDR as well and when I got to the Steelworks area the black level really drops down to regular deep black, I think the raised black in the earlier maps is intentional

you mean don't agree about Stalker 2 and Cronos? and yeah Hellblade 2 looks amazing right out of the box

I don't think all UE5 HDR is broken tho, Stalker 2 and Cronos The New Dawn function just fine, I think it's the default settings that messed up the image, after some tweaking I found most game ended up looking quite good, but I haven't check out this game yet tho
