Thank you so much, that's so kind. I will be back very soon. I have some leave coming up which I'm hoping will get my head straight. There's been lots to shoulder this year and I could do with some rest.

Helloooo you! Thanks so much for asking.

Have been struggling a bit. I don't post much about it but my Mum's dementia worsened significantly this year and my Dad had a stroke. She is now in a care home and it's all hitting me now the immediate crisis is over. It's been a brutal few months.

Israel bombed a hospital.

Rescue workers and reporters rushed to recover the dead and the wounded.

Israel bombed the hospital again. Live on TV.

Read that again.

Our government’s legacy will be its complicity in crimes against humanity. End all arms sales to Israel, now.

You're not wrong Dennis. The ambition is so low, and the delivery doesn't even match up to that.

At the moment, we have this idea that we can deliver housing OR we can deliver environmental benefits. It's a false binary, we can do both. But to achieve it, we need to focus on outcomes on the ground!

They're amazing, so lucky to be working with them. The book is the successor to Nature's Calendar, which they also published!

When you walk into a bar, and the landlady looks you up and down and says "I got you, I'm pouring a big one".

This is what a day of sorting out footnotes does. Good news: it's nearly ready to go off to Granta. Bad news: I'm going to have the worst hangover tomorrow.

I am supporting, I was at our protest here in Sheffield on Saturday and I have donated many times. You are not alone. Millions stand with you.

Check out my state of the art greywater recycling system! Cost: £3 from Screwfix.

Now I can reuse the water from my washing machine and kitchen sink in the garden during the hosepipe ban. (Obviously I'll be using ecofriendly detergents to try to protect the soil and plants as much as I can).

Not a surprising finding, but that doesn't diminish the importance of research that draws attention to this unfolding problem. Green and blue spaces can be important in mitigating this.
Low-income and minority ethnic people in England most at risk from dangerously hot homes
Exclusive: Homes are heating up as summers get hotter but least well-off are shouldering greatest risk, study finds

Novel ways to spend a gap yah: living as a goat.
Extract from a cheese newsletter that reads "Eddie farms in an impressively dramatic setting high up in the Haut Tarentais and his goats graze 120 acres of pasture, accompanied this year by Deborah who is working with him for the season".

For some reason I get a LOT of scam calls. I have started telling the person on the other end that I am placing a sickness curse on their whole family. I don't name disorders, I go full Bruegel on symptoms.

Every single one of them has hung up on me, and not called back.

At school, James Quinton & I loved Alan Ahlberg's Jolly Postman, with its neatly folded collection of letters.

James became a poet. After years apart, he wrote me.

I read the words. I missed what sat between them.

Ahlberg's death, a black-edged envelope, with another loss tucked quietly inside.

Yep, or domesticated honeybees for stories about wild bees!

Now I'm no expert on your lepidoptera across the pond but that's not even the same vague colourscheme is it?

Oh yay! That's brilliant!

I am not criticising the picture editors at all because everyone makes mistakes, but it would be nice to draw attention to the beautiful species that *are* here instead of one that is a very rare migrant.

That is so interesting that you guys have this issue too.

We get the occasional one, blown over in a storm, but this doesn't stop graphic designers and picture editors using them as the generic UK butterfly. I mean, they are GORGEOUS but we do have other lovely lepidoptera here...

Yet another glorious day in the annals of South Yorkshire Police, a force shamed only by the superior corruption of the Met.
