Does anyone have/know someone with a copy of the Black Library novel The Rose at War by Danie Ware they'd be willing to sell at a reasonable price?
Trying to complete my collection of Adepta Sororitas novels and I'm missing this one.

Really enjoyed I Am The Law and Too Like The Lightning. How are you getting on with We Are The Dead? On my TBR but haven't got round to it yet.

Had a dose a few weeks back hopefully it's not that bad

Sympathies. Got over my bout couple of weeks back. Very much in vogue again. Know a lot of I'll people. Remarkably few of them testing.

It was a little gem of a book I loved the atmosphere of the forest

Morning Womble. Trying to get into the spirit of the spooky season with The Child Thief by Brom.

Only just started it.

Finished The Butcher of the Forest by Premee Mohamed yesterday which was excellent.
The cover of The Child Thief by Brom. A black cover. A stream of spectres or angels crosses from left to right. In the middle A young man with pointed ears floats in a crucifix pose. He has bright red hair and a bright red jacket. The rest of his attire is black.

On either side behind him are the tall buildings of a city. Assorted rubbish swirls around his feet.

Cream, fruity and a bit of pithy bitterness at the end.

Good stuff.

Glass of Hop Showers by Other Half sits on my table next to the empty can. TV in the background.

Silver can. White label. The word hop is printed repeatedly left to right then overlaid from top to bottom merging into a more abstract pattern.

The colour shifts from metallic pink at the top through to cooler metallic blues at the bottom.

Double dry hopped India pale ale at 7.4%

I picked up 2 boxes so I'm on my 2nd run through

The Butcher of the Forest by Premee Mohamed sits on a wooden table to with a pair of dark brown glasses on the table above it.

The covers background is dark with dark green leaves. Branches can be seen through some gaps in the leaves.

An apple like fruit with a flickering light for a stalk can be seen at various points and animals as well a golden bird and unicorn. The unicorn all since and ribs. A brown/orange fox and rabbit as well.

All the animals heads are stark white skulls.

The terrifying thing is the number of people who seem to want this, who say it saves them from having to think, as if existence should be a unchallenging and comfortable dream.

Author and filmmaker Justine Bateman on generative AI
"They're trying to convince people they can't do the things they've been doing easily for years - to write emails, to write a presentation. Your daughter wants you to make up a bedtime story about puppies - to write that for you." We will get to the point, she says with a grim laugh, "that you will essentially become just a skin bag of organs and bones, nothing else. You won't know anything and you will be told repeatedly that you can't do it, which is the opposite of what life has to offer. Capitulating all kinds of decisions like where to go on vacation, what to wear today, who to date, what to eat.
People are already doing this. You won't have to process grief, because you'll have uploaded photos and voice messages from your mother who just died, and then she can talk to you via AI video call every day. One of the ways it's going to destroy humans, long before there's a nuclear disaster, is going to be the emotional hollowing-out of people." - author and filmmaker Justine Bateman from a piece by Emine Saner for the Guardian

Yeats, as often, has this:

Being honour bred, with one
Who were it proved he lies
Were neither shamed in his own

I'm starting to think we need to bring back a constructive form of shame, which @olufemiotaiwo.bsky.social makes a great case for in this excellent piece:

Another book that stood out to me that I haven't read. Watched a strong recommendation a while back from a Booktuber I enjoy and thought I would post it.

Korean author and translated work. I'm trying to broaden the scope of authors I'm reading. Bit of necromancy.

The Devils by Joe Abercrombie. Have to caveat that I haven't got round to reading this. It's had some middling reviews but people I follow have rated it highly and given Joes track record I'm sure this will be 99p well spent

Believe this is a daily so best be quick
