I made the mistake of watching it one day as YouTube pushed me clips of the Viola Davis bits and I thought “that looks really good” unfortunately that was the only bit.

Yeah, Hague was undoubtedly one of the best leaders of either party at PMQs since it’s been televised and it’s usually the footage of that that you see of his leadership. This has IMV drastically inflated people’s sense of his competence as a leader and politician more generally.

Yeah and totally fitting with that comparison is the undeniable fact that being charming and good looking made the relationship last much longer than it should have!

Don’t get me wrong It’s a perfectly enjoyable episode because of that. It’s just baffling to me that some people have it as one of their favourite episodes. When there’s plenty of modern who episodes (Chibnall aside) with great performances that are actually good overall episodes.

No it’s more people do like Utopia but they mistake some brilliant acting for it actually working as an episode.

Oh fair enough. On a related point really liked your “fix” for eternity. Like you I really enjoyed it but thought the ending lacked something but couldn’t quite work out what I thought it should be. Also now want another movie with Turner and Teller together, don’t waste that chemistry!

Didn’t think you disliked “we live in time” that much or have your thoughts hardened? IIRC you liked my analogy of it being like the DW episode Utopia “great acting elevating something that doesn’t really work”.

Really depends on location. Outside of Manchester I think there really is an argument Arsenal are severely more disliked than City by United fans. Not true of fans in and around Manchester in my experience, which makes sense.

Have you read Naomi Novak’s Temeraire series? It basically does that but with the Napoleonic War. Highly recommend if you haven’t.

We going by statutory or statistical outer London here? Because if you’re claiming Haringey is similar to Bromley, I’m going to have to compose a very stern note. 😛

No, it’s Essex with delusions of grandeur.

Thank You! I was seriously considering watching it, thinking at worst it would be the how you say it starts. Guess I’ll find something else.

So many opinions about the UK that frankly would be dispelled if any of the people holding them a) went outside b) talked to people rather than boiling in hatred about them online c) actually went out, enjoyed the amenities. Lived a little!

And all her best bits are on YouTube!

I kinda checked out of politics after the election just from burn out. Today and just happened to flip over and see PMQs. First I’ve ever heard about the voice coach.

I had a similar reaction in that I was very much moved by it but came out thinking it wasn’t something I’d much remember in a years time. Terrific acting elevating a film that doesn’t quite work. For DW nerd like you, a “Utopia” of a film.

Yeah, I’ve always been amused by the fact my mum was born on Stalin Road in Colchester. Don’t think they’ve renamed it since either.

Yeah agree on sports. Otherwise most of my other interests are well represented already here.

Sorry! Thought I had.

I swear every time they lose a couple games there’s a “is Mike Tomlin’s time up?” To which the answer is, No! And shit like this is why.

BIPOC really is the creme de la creme of this stuff as not only does it make no sense in a British context but it’s also completely misunderstood. Not sure I’ve met a single person who didn’t initially think it meant “bisexual people of colour”.
