oh uh, bars are a measure of music - like a 4 bar section of a song in 4/4 would be 16 beats (or counting to 4, 4 times).

In hip hop, saying someone has/got "bars" is a way of saying they are filling these measures with good rhymes and/or rapping well. they have "several bars worth of rhymes"

Coming back to this to scream about how i didn't mention the doors literally using a rhodes bass instead of a bass guitarist for live shows throughout their career (albums were sometimes session musicians on guitar). idk it's just a sound that has SO much tonal variation but always hits right for me

The Fender Rhodes (73 specifically) is, I think, the prettiest sounding instrument to my ears based on just tone alone.

hmmm naw, tech is more like designed for club, droney, little contrast b/t builds and drops, can be minimal, and often borrows a lot of atonal or non-melodic concepts from techno (like proper techno). Long-form, slow evolving - youtu.be/iO58tjtIkRI?... maybe a decent example

HMM deep house has more of that like soulfulness to it (and has a really rich history i feel like i'd be diluting by throwing this in there with it) but i do think deep house is a lot further up on the family tree here, so some influence there for sure.

Welp I’ve officially outgrown my 70lb dumbbells for db flat bench at home!

(Not like actually outgrown, ofc I can still get a lot of use and volume from them, but I can do full reps sets w them now and that’s a big change from a couple months ago!)
