I suppose I’m just a bit stunned that the CPC is perfectly fine holding onto the guy who blew a 20 pt lead, AND lost his own seat.

Carney isn’t Trudeau. And Poilievre’s messaging isn’t connecting with the majority of voters, at this point.

In fact, now that we’re having to deal with the geriatric toddler that is Trump, Poilievre comes across as anti-Canadian. And it’s a turnoff to voters.

He is. And he carries himself like a statesman, in a political era when statesman are in very short supply.

They review all of the testimony - and that’s usually from transcripts that can take a while to prepare - and they research case law that is submitted by counsel, review details of the case, perhaps look at case law on their own … and then they’ll write their decision.

It’s a LOT of work.

Oh, absolutely. That’s why there are several different sections in the CC dealing with this crime. If the mischief causes loss of life, that can be a life sentence.

Just for context, I worked in the legal field for nearly 2 decades.

The sentences handed down today are in keeping with the both the convictions, and the sentencing guidelines as set forth in 430 (2) & (3).

The most common sentencing for a first offense under $5k is a fine and probation.

Both Barber and Lich got far more than that.

For what? They were charged with and convicted of criminal mischief - a non violent offense.

Show me any other first time offenders who were sentenced to prison for criminal mischief.

Sentencing requirements aren’t based on whether or not we like those being sentenced 🤷‍♀️

I mean people are upset about the sentence because no prison time. But these were non-violent crimes, and the sentencing is in keeping with the law.

Besides, what’s a more perfect consequence for idiots who protested a mythical “lockdown” than being sentenced to a very real one?

If his polling doesn’t improve markedly before Christmas, we might see that all change come January.

There are likely more than a couple leadership hopefuls staying quiet now, but if they think there’s an opportunity, I don’t doubt they will start making noise and acquiring allies.

I entirely agree.

Effective opposition is vital to the Westminster Parliamentary system.

Poilievre isn’t just failing his own party. He’s failing Canadians, who deserve an opposition that holds gov’t to account, not one that serves up a daily bombastic rant for the party base & the cameras.

I think you’ve nailed it. He’s dug himself - and the CPC - so far into a hole that I don’t know how he climbs out.

And how does he use “common sense conservative ideals” to oppose a PM who is far more red tory than he is liberal?

He’s caught in the trap he and Jenni Byrne created.

Kenney is definitely waiting in the wings to take a run at the leadership. And he’d likely win. Jason Kenney is probably the best campaigner in Canadian politics.

But Kenney is also very much opposed to the alt-right hijacking of the CPC. He could cause major party drama.

Harper was the only reason uniting the PCs with Reform worked for a time - because Harper kept a tight leash on the loons that inhabited his back benches.

Poilievre doesn’t have the political gravitas Harper had, doesn’t know how to exert party control.

Anything is possible - even a CPC split.

He wasted the entire election pandering to one demographic: 18 - 35 year old men. And now that’s the CPC base.

Unfortunately, that’s also the demographic least likely to vote, and most likely to disengage during the “off-season” (outside of election campaigns).

Before they can discuss that, the party needs to figure out who they are. The CPC has moved so far to the right that the LPC was able to choose a red tory as their leader, and that really hamstrings the conservatives. How do they move out of alt-right, now? How do they oppose a conservative?

It’s obvious he’s worried about the impending leadership review - and the very real chance he’s about to lose his job - and that’s why all the QP theatrics.

He should be worried. Because if he can’t change these numbers, the CPC will definitely show him to the door, come January.

These are very bad numbers for CPC leader Pierre Poilievre.

His return to the HoC should’ve been accompanied by an increase in his favourability, but he’s not increased his polling beyond margin of error.

The theatrical pandering to the base he’s doing in QP isn’t helping him. At all.
