The Bullfrog game Syndicate running at 512x384 on a Macintosh Color Classic, on the darkest day of the year. The machine is struggling and the game is almost unplayable. The vibe is off the charts.

I've made a Power Macintosh 6100/80! This overclock needed the hot air station. I was worried about cooling - the 6100 case has bad airflow - and noticed that a 40mm fan fits perfectly into the "crown"-style heatsink of the PPC 601 😄

Also, easily one of the most beautiful motherboards I have seen. And the wide trace spacing, generous pad area, and well thought-out placement means you are much less likely to damage nearby components. This was just a joy to work on!

The NeXTstation is up and running! It is in phenomenal condition - even the battery still had 2.6V left (down from 3.0V). What an interesting and opinionated machine - they seem to have had some very clear ideas about how they wanted these to be used.

Here - had to run on a Power Macintosh 6100, it won't run in emulation. You have a "parry" and an "attack" (and throw), the "parry" is strong enough to stop the poke, but not the swing!

Sometimes when you're fixing up an old compact Mac, it's best to run them in the extremely undignified "Prolapse Mode"
A yellowed Macintosh SE/30 seen from behind. The PDS slot cover has been removed, the SCSI ribbon has been pulled through the slot, and a BlueSCSI has been attached. It kind of looks like the computer has dropped its guts out of its butt, and is turned away because it is ashamed.

Found an Apple TV 1st gen in fantastic condition! It looks so cool 😄I can't decide if I want to put:
1. something like batocera.linux on it and make it a gaming console
2. Windows XP for desktop retrogaming
3. OSX
A 1st gen Apple TV, on top of its box. It is a rounded square of delicate light gray acrylic with an aluminium edge. It is very slim and surprisingly large.

I overclocked my Macintosh LC630! This meant desoldering and repositioning two tiny ass resistors. This is definitely the limit of what I can see and manipulate without a microscope 😆 Instructions are here: www.applefool.com/clockchippin...

Giving my backup SE/30 some care and attention on this #MARCHintosh - a Noctua fan and some extra RAM. May you last another 35 years!
A compact mac with the back cover taken off, exposing the cramped electronics. The electronics lack the flat organization of a logic board. Odd shapes and copper coils are connected at orthogonal angles. A sticker warns of high voltages. A flyback transformer is imprisoned in a metal cage. A fragile PCB is balanced precariously atop a glass tube. A modern blue PCB with an SD card is inexpertly folded inside a large index card, and is lying loose.

Picked up an Xserve G5 for less than the price of three lattes and it is the most over/built and glorious thing I have seen. Each of those copper heat sinks weigh 529 grams!
A very large dark blue logic board. It is packed with components - a lot more repeating structures than you see on a regular logic board. There are a large number of heat sinks - even the RAM has heat shrouds. The board is dominated by two gigantic copper heat sinks for the G5 processors, placed side by side to sit directly behind the fans. Even the dual ethernet card has a heat sink!

So the moral is that even here in Norway, which seems to be less prone to battery bombs, machines this old are giving up the ghost. Always remove batteries before putting things into storage, you never know how long they will stay there!

Sadly it was too late - the caps weren't too bad but the battery had bombed out and corroded a sizable area around the ROM and Video systems. It had also leaked down, narrowly missing the CPU, and hit the floppy controller.
A battery bombed logic board. A palm-sized patch of corrosion is evident where the lithium battery contents have sprayed out and corroded the metal enclosure the logic board sits inside. The plastic casing which the battery sits inside has detached from the logic board. The electronic traces and any nearby chips are irrevocably destroyed.

I've been walking past this window several times a week for over a year, and I recently noticed a compact Mac in there? Can you figure out which model?
A view through a window into a brick industrial building converted to an office space. If you look closely, you can see a shelving unit against the far wall. If you look REALLY closely, you can see that the top shelf holds a number of obselete design tools, including a compact Mac - the beige ones with the built-in 9" CRT screen.
