I've seen some argument that the extreme productivity and prosperity will lead governments to institute UBI and end poverty. Brother, we have the prosperity to do that RIGHT NOW. We have for about 100 years!

I'm just like, OK, let's accept your sales pitch. Your tech and engineers are good enough that we will achieve it in 3-5 years. I believe you. Then what?

This is what comes from wearing a single digit as a pitcher, Flaherty

That one's pretty well documented as generating more tax revenue than it costs any government that's ever tried it haha

Has anyone made a compelling argument for what the actual benefits of AGI would be to society?

The Athletic (and every newspaper) used to have a straight reporter and a voice/columnist for every team, posting 2 different kinds of pieces almost every day. That was worth my money!

We don't have our own 1st without swap conditions until 2031 so it doesn't even make sense to tank 😭

(I am in no way shitting on Max, who I like)

I'm not criticizing him, especially given that he clearly has national desk responsibilities. But these pages used to have 2 stories a day.

It's one guy, and he clearly has some other responsibilities to the national desk.

Every year I unsubscribe when the price kicks up to full and go without for a month or two until they beg me to come back for $1-2 a month, cancel at the end, repeat. It's not because I don't have the money or I'm trying to be cheap. It's because the coverage is no longer worth more than that.

Went to The Athletic's Red Wings page. It's 1 recent story about the Red Wings and every other story is a national one. Disappointing what that website has become.

It is interesting to see the men's football trend of "midfield isn't real" slowly creep its way into the women's game even if the dominant club is still Barcelona with their 3 of the 7-8 best CMs in the history of the game
kimischilling.bsky.social
Well a goalkeeper turnover nullifies that lmao

I can see the case for Lyon starting Shrader over Damaris (tackling, goal threat) but this is the scenario that makes it punishing. Now you're chasing the game with only 1 CM who's good in build-up. For this to be the correct choice you kind of need a neutral or positive game state for a while.

Super duper A++ assist by Beth Mead there

Yeah it definitely starts with the idea of portraying him as a creative and business genius with a side of he's an asshole and womanizer, and then is forced to pivot when it comes out 90% of the way through filming that he is definitely a serial sexual harassment guy and allegedly a rapist
kimischilling.bsky.social
The Netflix Vince McMahon one kinda did this. They were too nice to him in the end but it's probably the only one that's even come close.

Also: "I don't know the details, I just saw a headline" then you shouldn't say anything until you get the details because you are the fucking Speaker of the House, not a goddamn podcaster

Johnson: "It's true that in previous shutdowns, many or most furloughed employees have been paid for the time they were furloughed, but there is new legal analysis - I don't know the details, I just saw a headline - but there are some legal analysts saying that might not be appropriate or necessary"
