Sometimes, because parchment undulates, even in digital facsimile we can see medieval illuminations as they would have looked with an indirect light source. Light and shadow made the page come alive every time it was used, for example, in a liturgical context.

My favourite viking find at MoL is the Huxley Hoard. Discovered in 2004, the hoard consists of 22 silver objects and 39 lead fragments. The folded Hiberno-Scandinavian armrings may have been carried to Cheshire when viking leaders fled from Dublin in AD 902 and settled in the region #medievalsky
