Long 🧵 on VCSE leaders...
At the @populationhealth.bsky.social Conf today a fab
VCSE leader delivering an amazing outcome focused integrated pain service shared a story of a clinician telling her he was surprised that she wasn't a hippy dancing around crystal healing.

I never get tired of hearing Chris Bentley. Amazing inspiring speakers. None of them haven't mentioned the vital role of the #VCSE in transforming health & care. But I could cry. Our sector & the vital work that we deliver is being decimated. #CPHCONF2024 @populationhealth.bsky.social

Small charities, don't write off insights from large charities as being irrelevant - see it as a jump ahead in knowledge thanks to someone else's work/time/money.

But! Be sure to adapt to your own circumstance, and be aware free ≠ good

Fantastic news! Huge congratulations to you and all the team ❤️
So I reckoned to start my Bluesky journey I would start with some particularly magnificent news. Last week Bradford Neonatal Unit was rated ‘Outstanding’ by the CQC and we couldn’t be happier nor more proud of this amazing clinical team. 👏🙌

Good to hear this from PM: “end the culture of blaming and shaming people who for too long haven’t been getting the support they need.” We desperately need this change in attitudes as well as policy. For years gov focused on hassling & punishing people. Time to try genuine support & opportunity.

Morning at St George's Crypt (wonderful work with homeless people in Leeds) talking to urgent care colleagues across West Yorks about how we achieve transformation. The heart sink moment from today was seeing the average age of death for people who are homeless. We must do better.

I don't work in urgent care but I have worked very closely with UC colleagues for a good 7 years now & we have staff based in the hospitals. There hasn't ever felt like reprieve for them. Winter pressures are a misnomer although we know for sure that this winter will be very grim indeed.
Dr Adrian Boyle, president of the @rcem.bsky.social said:

Charity campaigning is often criticised, but the Charity Commission has consistently reaffirmed its legitimacy. At our pre-election hustings, all major political parties agreed. The PM has also defended the right to campaign.

In many instances it’s the only way a charity can achieve its missions.
Craig Bennett, chief executive of the Wildlife Trusts, said at Bates Wells’ annual charity conference that there are always risks when charities campaign to achieve change. But charities need to be bold and firm when campaigning, he said, and stick to their fundamental charitable objectives.

Wise words here from my amazing right hand woman... few people know more about mental health and employment 👇🏽👇🏽👇🏽
Employment and mental health (or any disability); a 🧵:

It’s really important for us all to recognise the difference in what’s portrayed and what’s reality when it comes to the economically inactive.

In our employment services @cellartrust.bsky.social we know that people generally want work.

Dull-seeming but super important!

EMPLOYMENT figures for the U.K. may UNDERESTIMATE #employment by 1%, making them overly pessimistic.

This matters hugely with the #DWP white paper out soon and a major attack on the ‘economically inactive’—disguised as ‘help’—about to begin.
