I’m happy to say my first poem ever is in the Writers Resist Fall 2025 issue. Thanks to @kbgressitt.bsky.social and the entire WR staff for making the biggest wish of teenage-me-poet come true. Thanks also to @smokelong.bsky.social where this story (and pretty much every story of mine) was drafted.

Open ‘em. Break ‘em down. Maybe even walk through a door or two into your next story!

Nice tip @dawnsteffler.bsky.social!

Open all the doors.
Wisdom from @dawnsteffler.bsky.social via Vancouver Flash Fiction! #writinglife #flashfiction #writingcommunity
Early on, open up all the "doors" of your flash fiction: front door, back door, bathroom door, closet door; even the secret door. Saving things for later only stunts and hamstrings your story. The more you have to play with in the drafting, the better the chances are that your story will evolve in surprising ways ... and lead you to places unexpected.

New story with the bad ass @bloodhoneylit.bsky.social. A modern take on the play Women of Trachis, where Dejanira, fearing Hercules's infidelity, is tricked by the dying centaur Nessus into believing his blood is a love potion.

Flash fiction "A Centaur's Blood Is Always Poison" by Mario Aliberto III

“The preposterous size of his legs, pumping up and down, striated where the muscles met and sweat ran in rivulets, had dominated her fantasies the last few weeks.”

So many great lines to quote from this story, many maybe not appropriate to share here. But this will give you an idea of the story’s tone.

“Ah, I’m a teetotaller myself!” Reynolds said sliding off the bar. He tapped a nostril. “Except the odd snoot toot of Columbian booger sugar.”

Just read it!
