And the one playoff appearance they had under Vivek was during a year where a lot of teams were re-tooling. Like I said before, the Kings don’t just make one bad move, they make one decent/good move and then a ton of bad moves that compound.

It’s completely valid to say that the Kings are one of the most mismanaged teams after only having 2 playoff appearances in 25 years. I know that’s over two ownership groups, but one playoff appearance in 10 years for Vivek is insanely bad. That’s more than just bad luck.

Amplified by a completely dysfunctional FO. Even if Vlade was smart enough to take Luka, this ownership group has proven that they’re too dysfunctional to do basic team building. Fox and Mike Brown were begging for wings and Monte kept drafting small pg’s and not trading for any playable wings.

But the Kings don’t just have one bad draft, they have multiple that compound into drafting players who are either not as good as you hoped or complete busts so then you make desperate trades (trading a future first for Heurter, DeRozan, Lavine) to make up for average to terrible drafts.

And maybe they were consensus moves, it’s not fair to give passes for moves they made that at the time were generally agreed upon as good. You’re just judged on if moves that you made ended up being more positive than negative. How many Kings players drafted or traded for are no longer in NBA?

the failures of past GM’s give Vivek some flexibility to say it wasn’t all his fault, but he’s the constant in all of this, and he seems unable to help himself from making decisions (Lavine). It’s hard to imagine Kings becoming a well run franchise when Vivek’s FO is consistently dysfunctional.
December 6, 2025 at 5:04 PM
Well yeah, maybe the picks were consensus, but Vlade was atrocious at evaluating talent. When Vlade went against consensus we ended up with Bagley. And Monte’s small ball team building philosophy was just very outdated in today’s NBA.
December 6, 2025 at 5:04 PM
Monte was the best GM of Vivek’s tenure but there was a lot of issues. Prior to Monte, roster construction was honestly awful. If Vlade didn’t pick Fox, the Kings would have been an absolute dumpster fire when Monte took over.
December 6, 2025 at 4:40 PM
The Kings have been bad at roster building for the entirety of Vivek’s ownership. When you’re dealing with the poorly constructed roster the Kings have, if you trade away your last remaining valuable asset which is draft picks, you’ll be really hopeless if that trade doesn’t work out, like clippers.
December 6, 2025 at 3:01 PM
I feel like anti-tankers main issue with tanking is that the Kings have been bad for so long so they don’t want to go through a longer period of tanking, but this issue is the Kings have rarely bottomed out, they’ve always been just good enough to be a lower tier team but normally not the worst.
December 6, 2025 at 3:01 PM
I’d assume even if Giannis was okay coming here, there’s no way the Bucks would do a deal without Keegan in it. Which is a major problem with the Kings right now. There team is lacking so many assets that it feels like there only option is to rebuild through the draft.
December 6, 2025 at 3:01 PM
I feel like DLo and KC have always been anti rebuild, but there’s really no way to trade your way out of the mess the Kings are in. If you brought in Kuminga and get a good draft pick this year then maybe it goes quicker but this team is bad in almost every category, it needs to be torn down.

They were desperate to try to salvage a doomed season. Fans will see things differently though. If you think the Kings made the right deal for Fox at the right time then okay, I can’t tell you that you’re wrong, I just don’t agree.
December 3, 2025 at 6:30 PM
Hindsight is 20/20 but like Greg said, when Spurs get the 2nd pick, do they still want Fox? If not, then Fox would add teams to list of preferred destinations which would create a bidding war. And if Zach Lavine is the peak of Fox’s value then how much are you realistically losing in three months?
December 3, 2025 at 6:17 PM
The Kings were negotiating at a point of desperation. If they just finish the season with Fox on the roster then there wouldn’t be the feeling of urgency that made the Kings appear weak.
December 3, 2025 at 6:17 PM
Kings consistently make moves out of desperation, they always play the short game and try to take shortcuts. The Spurs org is run pretty much polar opposite to the Kings lol. Spurs got gifted a generational talent (twice) but they always seem to make the right move.
December 3, 2025 at 4:12 PM
I really can’t believe that Monte made this trade. I’m not trying to absolve Monte of responsibility, he made a lot of bad decisions, but at the point in time of the Fox trade, it felt like Monte relayed all of the options for Fox to Vivek and Vivek chose Lavine.

Jeff Bridges and Zoe Saldana should not be in T-mobile commercials.

Stafford playing as well as he has been makes it seem like there’s no way he retires after this year.

The only thing that will increase any Kings players values is a bidding war. As the trade deadline gets closer and some teams feel like they have a shot to win it this year they might give a decent return for some players.

I feel like they’ve talked constantly about this. Why is the thanksgiving Walmart meal being pushed as some benchmark of the economy?
