In my own lived experience. Going after someone who had more power and influence in me I wasn't believed.

Then When someone on equal footing or above them confronts them it's instantly believed and action is immediately taken. And I know its not necessarily right. But it's what I lived.

The defensiveness kicked in when people started insulting me. And then after I explain or try to communicate with someone I continue to get insulted I can't coherently speak in a positive light.
