screenshot from the writing advice subreddit. the title says "How do I lengthen a chapter dedicated to describing a room?" and the body text says "I'm trying to start out the book I am writing by describing the main character's room by having them interact with it. I want this to last a full chapter before they exit the room so it doesn't feel super rushed to the first plot point, but the most I can seem to write is a single page. Does anyone know what I can do to lengthen it?"

i read that series of three books in five days. and they were five days when i had A LOT GOING ON or it might have been less. absolutely devoured them and kept the library books for all of the remaining time so i could reread parts. and bought physical copies. SO YEAH I LIKED THE BOOKS...

since I've been reading a lot of romance novels lately and famously hate star ratings, I invented this rating scale to quantify what matters to ME in a romance novel
romance novel rating scale: prose? truly bad / fine / notably good plot? actively pissed me off / fine relationship conflict? none OR pissed me off / adequate / agony did i like the MC? (or character A if dual POV) no / yeah / i am in love with them did i like the love interest? (or character B if dual POV) no / yeah / i am in love with them did i look forward to scenes where they interacted? no / yes / agony did i get butterflies at the first kiss? no / yes / agony did i think about them while not reading? no / yes / agony average (enjoyable) romance novel: 8 points max score: 15 points

sorry to skip ahead but i was thinking about this line from the hallmark fic sequel that always makes me laugh so much, and i think this really speaks to a difference btwn AU bingyuan and canon bingqiu, which is: in canon, sqq is projecting misogyny onto himself much harder
