It totally does! Admittedly, right now it takes me about 2.5 hours to craft one review. But at least I'm doing it, which I wasn't before! 🎉💜

If you enjoyed "The Wolf and the Woodsman" by Ava Reid, R. B. Lemberg's Birdverse, "The Butcher of the Forest," by Preemie Mohammed, or "Where the Dark Stands Still" by A. B. Poranek, I can't recommend The Maiden and Her Monster highly enough! 4/4

The Maiden and Her Monster is the fairy tale that I desperately need right now: Martinez skillfully captures in heartbreaking detail the love, the fear, the anger, and the fortitude that bring individuals and communities together to survive oppression. 3/4

Malka, a Yehadi apprentice healer, must capture the monster living in the forest outside of her village in order to save her mother from the Ozmini Church. On her journey, Malka must decide what it means to be a monster and how she will change herself to protect her family and her people. 2/4

and the care Birdsall takes in presenting these stories warms my heart (including calling out homophobic bullshit when he finds it). There are no recipes here, but if you're interested in queerness, community, and food, this book is a great choice. 2/2 app.thestorygraph.com/books/07c046...

Tan skillfully weaves the importance of consent throughout the action-packed story. The spicy scenes are so well-written and reveal so much about the characters and their relationships that those scenes are hot to me even though most of these character's kinks aren't mine! 5/6

Tan's kinky, sex-based magic system is ingenious: they consider not only how the actions that are part of a scene (knife play, cutting, impact play, orgasm denial, etc.) might generate mystical power, but also how that power is affected by Dom/sub roles & by crossing individuals' boundaries. 4/6

Clive's reappearance weeks later pulls Mira into a small group of kinksters who turn her world upside-down: magic is real, and it's controlled by many of the same practices Mira is familiar with from her play in dungeons. 3/6
