🌱🏛️ Celeb tattoo artist Kaveh/bookshop owner Alhaitham modern AU is DONE!

In an 80k word slow burn - Kaveh helps Alhaitham memorialize his grandmother, finding purpose in the ink & art he’d lost his passion for.

I poured a lot into this & i’m very proud of how it turned out 🥹

🌱🏛️ Alhaitham has an unhideable reaction to Kaveh’s brilliance 😼
🌱 🏛️ Kaveh corrects Alhaitham on a physics problem.

In response, Alhaitham's body immediately activates a notably rigid branch of classical mechanics.

A threadfic ⬇️

YES ahhh! I wrote this into one of my modern AU fics hehehe 🤩 Kaveh corrects Alhaitham about one of the laws of thermodynamics as one of their first interactions, and Alhaitham keeps the note because he's like 'HOT DAMN WHO IS THIS MAN WHO CAN CORRECT MOI???'

btw if anything about the physics looks wrong, no it doesn't. I do physics for my irl job but it's a very different flavour than this, so let's all agree it’s fine 🫡

“Kaveh helped me with the equation. I had to redistribute the load,” Alhaitham said lightly, focus straying to the marks now scattered along the side of Kaveh’s neck. “It just needed a little... applied thrust.”

“Did you solve the issue you were telling me about earlier?” Tighnari asked, narrowing his eyes at Kaveh’s newfound interest in the floor as he refused to meet his gaze.

“Like this.” Brushing a thumb beneath Kaveh’s jaw, Alhaitham tugged him down with far more confidence than he felt - letting their bodies fall into an inevitable rotation around the only axis that mattered.

Eyes fluttering half-shut, Kaveh inhaled sharply and swung his leg over to settle astride Alhaitham’s lap without hesitation.

“How do I affect you, then?” Kaveh asked, voice trembling as he threaded his fingers into Alhaitham’s hair.

It was all the confirmation Alhaitham needed. In one fluid motion, he shoved the book onto the floor and let his hands find Kaveh’s body instead - one sliding to the back of his neck, the other curling around his waist.

Inhaling a deep breath to underpin the most terrifying words he’d ever spoken, Alhaitham edged forward until their foreheads were nearly touching. “Most people,” he whispered, “don’t affect me the way you do.”

Kaveh’s breath hitched, brow tightening with emotion.

“Why aren’t you even embarrassed?” Kaveh managed.

“Why would I be?” Alhaitham said, tone deceptively mild - as though confessing his desire for Kaveh was an entirely ordinary Saturday morning.

“Most people would be,” Kaveh murmured faintly, searching his face intently.

The air felt charged by the heat of a glowing ember - one spark from bursting into flame. They gravitated together instinctively, the space between them collapsing as Kaveh’s fingers brushed Alhaitham’s atop the page.

“Really?” Kaveh whispered.

Taking a wild chance, Alhaitham leaned forward, voice dropping to something husky and raw. “Would you like me to prove it?”

Kaveh’s cheeks flushed a startled, lovely pink. He looked like he expected Alhaitham to laugh it off - but Alhaitham simply stared, finally stepping over the last barrier separating them that had been steadily dissolving since Kaveh moved in.

Dozens of lies flickered through his mind, but each was flimsier than the last beside the truth he’d been wrestling with for years - that Kaveh affected him in a way no theorem could quantify.

Slowly, Alhaitham shook his head. “I get turned on by 𝘺𝘰𝘶 doing physics.”

“It’s not my fault,” Alhaitham snapped defensively, blurting the first words he could conjure as his heart pounded against his chest. “You just recited the parallel axis theorem from memory.”

Kaveh blinked at him. “You... what? You get turned on by - by physics?”

Finally, Kaveh slowly raised his gaze from Alhaitham’s tented pants - though he didn’t look nearly as upset as Alhaitham expected. “Are you - seriously?”

He tried to be subtle, he really did. But as Kaveh leaned even closer to clarify another detail - of which Alhaitham didn’t hear a single word - Kaveh’s eyes drifted downward.

For a prolonged stretch, neither of them spoke, both paralyzed by a long, breathless silence.
