They get on quite well. (Title from 'Can't Help Falling In Love' by Elvis Presley) The show was over, the audience had dispersed (to homes, to hotel rooms, to the streets, to wherever horny demons needed to go to get their rocks off). Asmodeus and his jester had retired to do who knows what (everyone knew what, it was an open secret the king of Lust and the cybernetically-enhanced comedian were in a committed something.). The theatre at Ozzie's was now quiet, save for the murmur of the cleaners making their rounds - and security rounding up the odd stragglers still attempting to get it on under the tables. After a concert was always Verosika's least favourite time. The quiet. The solitude; alone with her thoughts. The crash after the adrenaline rush of validation... and oh what a high it had been tonight. Performing at Ozzie's, at the home of the king of Lust? She'd given it her all, bathed for fleeting moments in the adoration of the lascivious crowd, and Asmodeus himself had heaped praise on her as she strode off stage, sweat-bejeweled, chest puffed out and head held high. Now the exhaustion had kicked in; the self-doubt as the memory of screams and cheers and applause retreated; the resentment of watching Ozzie and Fizzarolli cuddle in the balcony all evening. Who did they think they were kidding? It was plain as day they weren't just lusting for one another, but in love, and she hated that it made her recall the pain of the last few years. This was when she would normally get blackout drunk, replace her spiraling train of thought with blurred false euphoria, the half-peace of dreamless sleep, and then a hangover next morning. And thank Satan, it looked like the bar was still open. Her aching legs carried her towards it. The bartender who popped up as she approached was...not what she expected, for an establishment like Ozzie's. Imps, sure, they ran the seven rings doing most of the mundane behind-the-scenes shit... but she'd have expected a muscular, shirtless himbo, something like the bouncer (what was his name? she hadn't thought to ask) wit…

The waiter took & brought their orders (after a long wait; this was Hell after all), and Charlie must have noticed how Vaggie hid the knife out of sight because she offered to cut Vaggie's food for her. And Vaggie still felt so nervous, and she couldn't stop thinking that now she was going to have to tell Charlie about her scars, at some point. Alastor looked down at her with his usual infuriating sneer and spike of static. Vaggie scowled right back, anticipating a typical goading comment about her 'lack of a smile' or her justifiable distrust of him... Shit, her arms. She saw his eyes trail slowly downwards, saw his pupils dilate like a predator honing in on its prey. "What the hell are you looking at, cabrón?", she snarled, futilely trying to cover up her bare arms. She knew what was coming next and she tried to steel herself for it; for the Radio Demon to latch onto her weakness and start exploiting it for all the amusement he could get... Wait... why was his smile so barely-there now? Were his eyes softening? Was it her brain playing tricks on her or had the harsh buzz of static softened to an almost-soothing white noise? What sort of trick was he playing at? Slowly, Alastor rolled up one of his sleeves. There were crisscrosses of pale discolouration across his forearm; from the wrist all the way up to the elbow. He sips it, staring out across the cityscape tiredly, the hit of caffeine only emphasizing just how stretched thin he feels at that moment. The owl's voice rouses him. "You know, I can tell you're not really doing alright. You don't look like you're getting enough sleep." Moxxie is well aware of the dark shadows and creases under his eyes. "I'm coping" he asserts, hollowly. "I have to, for her -" "To the detriment of your own wellbeing?" Octavia suddenly looks very much like her father; noble and wise. "Bottling up grief never ends well." "Well, Millie's is more important than mine." Moxxie insists. "And you think yours isn't important at all?" That gives Moxxie pause. Octavia carries on. "You have as much right to grieve as Millie does. You were a parent as much as she was." Moxxie swallows; flinches internally from the compassion. "But... I feel like I'm responsible, like I have to make up for something.." "Moxxie." Octavia sighs. "I've been there. I blamed myself for Dad & Stella's marriage falling apart, back then. Cause it seemed like they were only staying together because of me. And that feeling didn't go away for a fucking long time... even after she left for good. Charlie chatters how she never even knew it was here, and the bartender's mind is cast back to black depths, disease-ridden corpses tainting the waters, a vulnerable ford ripe for ambush Niffty tasks herself with cleaning up the decrepit pool, and Husk remembers never go alone and look away for one second and suddenly they're gone. He discretely asks Angel and Vaggie to keep an eye on her, cause Niffty would refuse any direct offer of aid (and that attitude got them killed) Angel seems to see straight through Husk like he's a fractured pane of glass. Vaggie outright asks him, with concern, if there's a reason for his request - if the cat is okay. Husk doesn't want to elaborate. He takes another swig of cheap booze. They're still working on that f*cking pool, and Husk gets a massive sense of foreboding every time Charlie gushes about how things are coming along or Angel makes an allusion to his 'beach bod'. One day there's a commotion somewhere in the hotel - a bassy roar - (tense, ready to take cover or flee - two shrieks - (someone is suffering) - the crackle of shadowy static - (orders coming in the fog) then Alastor manifests in the lobby lugging some mutant fucking shark, still twitching, to his swamp lair and fuck Husk is clinging to debris; fins circling; scales shredding his legs or are those teeth teeth te e th... The Radio Demon finds him afterwards, gasping, pressed into a corner and yanking at his tattered ears. Alastor does nothing but remain at his side in respectful silence. Husk hates it, and hates himself for hating it as well.

Most likely he tried to give his daughter no choice but to return to his side and conform. Princess Charlotte - grieving, demoralized, betrayed - must have been incomprehensibly enraged.

"You're bothering me." There's no real heat in the retort, and Angel notes the cat's back cringe slightly as he says them. He tackles the gut-punch hurt down, reminds himself that Husk's only got his walls up. Husk grabs, chugs a bottle of beer, then turns and glowers seeing the spider still at the counter. "Couldja fuckin' lay off? I don't want to talk 'bout it right now." His eyes dart about as he scrubs his mouth, scanning the room as if expecting eavesdroppers or an ambush. That detail doesn't escape Angel's notice. "Kitty, it's past midnight," he murmurs reassuringly. "Just us down here." Husk grunts, turns away to take another swig, but some of the tension in his back has gone down. That's a good sign. Angel pauses, inhales, before continuing. "Look... I know this is probably something to do with my workin' the streets an' all. Ya do tend to get all...y'know, surly-like, uncomfortable... on nights like these. Been noticin' that for a while now. At least," he quips lamely, trailing off, "when I ain't sauced up on sum't'in..." A gritted sigh. "Fuck it." Husk places the bottle down and turns around. The furrow of his brows and the stoic concern in his voice broadcast no resentment but insecurity. "I know, alright?" he blurts. "That you're in a contract with Val, that you gotta do all this stuff on the streets 'cause he makes ya." His tone softens. "An' it's not you. I don't hold it against ya, Angel. I mean it. Don't want you beating yourself up over it, cause I reckon you - uh - get enough of that already..." Angel feels his chest tighten a bit. "Then what izzit, Husk?" Husk averts his eyes, anxious. He seems to take a while to find the right words, and speaks them in a small, hesitant voice: "Am I not...gonna be... enough, for you, someday?" Angel sits bolt upright instantly. "Dontcha dare drag yerself like that Husky." The spider's voice is a low, protective growl. "You're miles better than any of the Johns out there, in and out of bed." He waves a trio of arms wildly, emotionally, in the direction of the main doors, the city beyond. "We talk. Ya listen. We drink - I have a ball just spendin' time with ya, before we even get to the bedroom - and that means so much more than any number of clients I can suck off in one night. That's just getting laid an' paid; sure I might fucken enjoy it some nights but only for what it is! Can't remember their faces even when I'm sober. Molly clutches two hands to her chest; her beaming smile brightening of its own violation. She only just hears her happy little exhale, fixated on the sensation when Cherri clasps her other hand. She doesn't need any cue to lean forward and touch foreheads; not caring how it musses up her hair. She knows Cherri is rough-edged, hardened, by life and death. It makes her so glad, every time, to see the cyclops let her walls down - even moreso when it's because of her.

She has experienced enough Exterminations already. Watched Slumped Sinners, who smiled hopelessly as they stumbled towards the waiting spears of the heaven-sent Exorcists. Don't think Charlie doesn't notice when Angel Dust wears that same forsaken expression, or that worry doesn't flare up inside her each time she does. Charlie knows. But she doesn't really know what to do. (at least, not yet) The alarm goes off. Vaggie, blinking, rolls over and reaches across to the bedside table. She knocks a glass of water clean onto the floor. Charlie jolts awake at the noise; peers over Vaggie's shoulder at the shattered mess on the carpet. She rubs the moth's rigid back; presses warmth and presence against her girlfriend, delicately offering words of it's okay and Niffty won't have any trouble dealing with it... until Vaggie's internal monologue of stupid, blind, should have been more careful subsides and the clenched panic in her chest thaws, and now she can fumble deliberately for the still-squawking phone, pick it up, and hit snooze. She puts the phone back and huffs, turning to face her girlfriend. Charlie looks at her with such earnest caring that Vaggie can't help but slowly smile, and really believe in that infectious unspoken reassurance. Charlie beams back; kisses her, and encloses her in a morning cuddle, gently tracing a thumb around the scarred 'X' of Vaggie's left eye. The hotel burns. The wards are torn - hẻ tore them It was, in the moment, exhilarating to watch as realization filtered through the denizens and then as panic set in. A true feeling of elated apprehension that he hadn't felt in so long... Then the angels came in. Alastor lies, twisted, watching the circling formations through the peeled roof. In corners of his vision there's a scattered pack of cards, a tattered feather, a ripped red lady's glove. The chaos, the collapse of forlorn hopes and dreams... yes, it was most entertaining. While it lasted. But now...what could top this - allowing exorcists to enter protected premises? Was it worth losing Husker? Seeing the princess turn her back and disappear into herself, no fire, just the mere act of giving up? Was it worth the holy blade piercing his body, draining his essence into the void? He doesn't regret, though. What still consumes Alastor, as he fades, is a hunger for MỚRĘ of the thrill that has brought him down. The end is absolute boredom.
