Year 8 Teacher
Told my year 8 class that when they enter class they need to be as quiet as ninjas...and the result was both hilarious and silent. 😂 #edusky

Are there any educators or experts in science and/or literacy out there that would be interested in having a chat about morphology and science - particularly for students in the middle/intermediate grades?

We are about half way through our first term of the year. I have several students who are reading below to well below their expected level. I have started using @timrasinski.bsky.social fluency activities and have challenged them to get as many signatures from home as they can. Good for you kid.

@timrasinski.bsky.social Kia ora. I am a teacher from New Zealand and I found your road to comprehension video series but I am unsure how to sign up to it. Could you please assist? Thanks so much!

Over the past couple of years, I feel like students in the intermediate grades are finding it harder to relate to each other. These students would have been around year 3/4 when Covid lockdowns came about. Do you notice the same? Do you think it is a trauma response? #edusky

Tonight I had dinner with my husband, my daughter, her boyfriend, her half sister, her step mother and her boyfriend's father. We had also invited my husband's ex wife and her husband. Family situations don't have to be awkward or bad unless people make them that way.

Morphology works. My students are interested in words and hunt for morphemes. They have even started to ask for the origin of words in their spelling. #year8 #edusky

Paul has an incredible understanding of what students need to engage and become active learners. He is an inspiration.

My favourite conspiracy theory is that the all blacks rugby team was named after a London newspaper made a typo that, instead of saying they played like a team of all backs, the paper inadvertently typoed it as all blacks. And, I think that's beautiful ❤️

Reading also strengthens recently developed areas of the brain. It is a gateway to all other subjects. Being literate will help a student experience success throughout their school journey.

My extended whānau has started a competition to grow the best tomatoes. Competition is fierce, but in a wholesome way. One aspect is the best decorated pot. My daughter, snickering with delight, showed me her hand painted masterpiece. At the top of her pot, painted beautifully, the words 1/2

Educators of Blue sky, what is your best or strangest "I can't believe that worked" moment? Mine was in my first year teaching and becoming exasperated with a noisy class of 13 year olds and, out of desperation, I suggested the quiet game and it worked. Instantly. 🤦🤷

My first ever class will be in their final year of high school next year. 3 of my former students have been elected as house leaders for the house I lead for their final year. So proud of how far they have come.

My daughter was approximately 4 in this picture. This is one page in a scrap book she made for my birthday 2 years ago. Now, she is almost 20, and we still talk every day. 💕
