“Obviously Renee Good was not a terrorist.”

I’d like to think Newsom at least had some sort of comeback to that knowing how Team Trump drops the T word to describe anyone who criticizes or protests the administration at all, not just ICE. Didn’t Todd Blanche just say Walz and Frey are terrorists?

It’s why Virginia and Maryland have to do it too. Otherwise the hope of flipping the House becomes a much bigger maybe.

I think some capitol police complained that many of the Trump tribe beat the shit out of them on Jan 6. Team Trump didn’t care. They probably would have been okay if the worst thing they experienced was a middle finger.

I don’t get Roberts’ comment that “win or lose, candidates suffer when the process departs from the law.” If the law is that ballots postmarked on of before E-Day will be counted if received by X day, how is the process departing from the law? That means D & R ballots mailed on E-Day all can count.

Again, if voters don’t want to vote for a naturalized citizen, they don’t have to. The point is to let them make the choice. Also, there are native-born citizens who agree with Mamdani’s platform & would try to take things the “wrong direction” (as he calls it) as well. Does he want to ban them too?

Be interesting to see what if anything such a meaningless gesture gets her (meaningless because history will still record her as the peace prize recipient.) Watching someone grovel like this is uncomfortable, especially since there’s no indication he’ll try to boot out the current president.

Confronting officers with words, (even mean ones) either spoken or on signs does not an insurrection make. Nor does observing or filming them. If some people assault officers they can arrest & charge them. Same thing if they steal or damage property. But such actions still do not equal insurrection.

Is that like one broccoli floret?

The “unsures” “don’t knows” and “undecideds” always crack me up. Just living out there in their own little utopia. They should add a “don’t care” or “not my problem” option. The reality is there are plenty of people who don’t care about any issue until or unless it directly impacts them.

Don’t doubt there’ll be many who boycott & protest, but I’ve seen reports that say FIFA has been inundated with ticket requests. (Which could just be a ploy to raise prices.) So I don’t know what this “emergency meeting” is for, but hard to believe FIFA’s worried about the loss of 16k ticket sales.

And like with Facebook, Twitter and the Gulf of Mexico, I’m sure I’ll still call it O’Hare.

Jesus weeps…then laughs.

So I assume they’ll sue before the election since it has to do with how people can vote, not the results. How do you prepare to administer an election if the election rules are still up for debate on 10/1? There must be some deadlines re: the timing. Otherwise voters would have no idea what to do.

Pretty sure you don’t get to cut off funds to five states because one guy posted a video on the internet.
January 13, 2026 at 4:17 AM
Did he say that or did Axios? Seems odd for a potential 2028 candidate to essentially admit much of the base wouldn’t support him. He must believe he can win indies & moderate republicans. But he’d also turn 69 before he’d take office if he won. All the others seen as vying for the role are younger.

Wow. Assuming Maduro might still have some loyal troops out there, I suspect she’s gonna be having someone start her car for the foreseeable future.
January 11, 2026 at 9:34 PM
So does the NYT article ever use the word dictator or authoritarian in this piece? I know the straight press wants to avoid ever being seen as editorializing, but how do you write that our laws aren’t able to stop Trump and not also at least dip your hand into the dictator pool.

What a society does when its people know they have nothing left to lose and that long hoped-for light at the end of the tunnel just wasn’t happening.

Following the current administration’s playbook, it would seem all the Iranian regime has to do is claim it has the right to shoot and kill protesters who they say are jeopardizing the lives of police and soldiers who are merely trying to enforce the law and restore order.

Reporters might try pressing such guests whether it’s inflammatory for DHS to post things like a sunny beach scene featuring the words “America after 100 million deportations” and the caption “the peace of a nation no longer besieged by the third world” among other words and acts meant to provoke.
January 11, 2026 at 4:41 PM
Just another example of why not everyone should be allowed to possess a gun. Having the temperament to know when it should or should not be brandished is kind of key. Next time just let his toilet stay clogged and take the hit on customer satisfaction. Better than ending up dead.
January 10, 2026 at 10:03 PM
Or, if he’s so convinced such candidates would take Kentucky the “wrong direction,” Kentucky voters could simply not vote for such candidates. This seems like an admission that there might be residents who would like Kentucky to go a different direction (and that they don’t consider it “wrong.”)
January 10, 2026 at 8:38 PM
Yes, because Trump is so respectful of the laws, rules or policies of others. People seem to be slow to learn how Trump operates. He just said that he is bound by nothing except his own morality…which means he’s bound by nothing. (Also, he’d take the prize and Rodriguez would still be president.)

Least shocking headline ever.

Then I think we can safely conclude how that investigation will end. No need to spend taxpayer dollars on a foregone conclusion. Not only will he be fully exonerated but my guess is he’ll subsequently be promoted and who knows what else…probably given the Medal of Honor by Trump.
