Though all the chaos we live in, it's often the small treats that bring us joy. Yesterday a tree creeper went by my window, so I literally pictured this little guy from my working table at a distance of about 3-4 m. 🪶

To be fair, shooting Mergansers in Munich is a bit like shooting fish in a barrel. They are common along the whole river Isar, and if you don't follow them, they can come pretty close.

With that beak it looks to me like a young one from this year (they look like the females no matter the sex). The hook at the end and the beak overall need a bit of time to develop.

Oystercatcher's are pretty great catching all kind of prey on sandy beaches, too. This specimen had a success rate of about 80% catching small sandworms.

Interestingly the Great Spotted Woodpecker has the same distribution of red as a young and adult on another continent (Northern hemisphere except US).

That's a really GREAT image, but I think it could be improved a LOT by adjusting the exposure in the photo editor of your choice.
It's waaaay underexposed, by about 1.5 fstops. Look at the histogram of this image:

Moving closer to any bird usually is less fruitful than waiting for them to approach you anyway, and for Choughs it's even worse as far as my experience goes.

Das Photo zeigt das ganz gut: Die Augen liegen beim Menschen ungefähr auf halber Gesichtshöhe. Wenn man sie dann in der Zeichnung höher ansetzt, wird das Gesicht zu lang, und Stirn/Oberkopf zu klein.

Kittyhawks are small open sea species which are only coming to land for breeding. They are great flyers and my favorite gull.

How do you come to the conclusion he swims out with the father, given that their mating system is female-enforced monogamy?
In the sky you often can spot them between the Guillemots because they very often fly as a pair, though I really don‘t know what they do when they leave their nest site.
