If your perception of steam is that it's an online toy store aimed specifically at kids, then you should be equally as concerned with the magnitudes more of mature video games with themes of violence, gore, and profanity. All of which steam still allows you to filter out.

vanilla minecraft actually runs quite well nowadays. Didn't have to install any optimization mods to run at a smooth 60fps

I kinda want to blame unity's naming conventions here because properties in C# usually use the PascalCase naming scheme which makes it more clear. But the points you made are completely valid and I've been tripped up by them before.
