I won't unfriend. I won't talk down. I seek to listen and comfort, and instill a pattern of hope and joy and community in the people I get to interact with. I won't rest until the world knows love and forsakes its obsession with violence. We all need to do better.

I don't believe the vast majority of people to be truly evil in any way. Some are selfish, vain, and greedy, and others are consumed by those things, but we are more than capable of learning from each other and creating a future brighter than the valley of shadows that we've been subjected to.

There are outliers, of course, but 99% of people agree on 99% of issues, and yet there's so much spite and blind hatred on both sides.

I don't celebrate loss of life, I mourn the loss of hope that has bred such rampant hate and violence. I despise that we have leaders who serve to widen the gap.

Don't get me wrong, I think violence is wrong, full stop. Vengeance and vendettas have no place in a civilized society, and the prevalence of violence in our society is proof that it's anything but civilized.

I'm upset for so many reasons. But the division between us is the top of the list for me.
