Some sketches. The way she draws the sword changed quite a bit from the initial sketch. Lifting a heavy sword over her head seemed unnecessarily dangerous..

Lago and her adoptive father Mogu discuss an old sword that belonged to her master. Mogu claims that she will be allowed to keep it, as soon as she grew tall enough to pull it out in one go. Lago struggles to unsheathe the large claymore with her puny arms, but soon switches to her prehensile tail to draw the weapon fully, with a defiant look on her face. Mogu didn't account for that possibility and hastily announces that her tail doesn't count, while his son Emil laughs at the whole situation.

Ah I think you can get a feel for it after a while, it's just rough in the beginning. Another way to put it is that everything deals 2 dmg, except Hornet-sized weapons/enemies and small projectiles.

The 2 dmg actually has requirements, like a large enemy/weapon or flurry attacks. Static hazards deal 1 mask, moving hazards deal 2.. ironically they broke that rule by nerfing some hazards.
I feel like gauging how much dmg an attack will deal is only unpredictable with small bosses.

Was it that bad? I think the difficulty came from learning diagonal pogo and adjusting to normal enemies having more threatening movesets. It felt more like a "not supposed to be here yet" area since I forced my way past the big guard without exploring Deep Docks first.

Lago's jaw tail isn't based on any creature she encountered, so it looks a bit sloppy. According to Lago, her master is able to create a much larger version that could crush buildings..

Just completed Silksong and adored every second of it, this little bug world really strikes a cord with my heart. Other metroidvanias will have a hard time impressing me now, this kind of game only comes along once every 5-10 years.

That's one part of the problem, but retail stores are also a factor. You have unlimited quantities of products on the digital store, but your local Gamestop may run out of stock on popular releases.

I grab Nintendo games physical because of their track record with availability of older games, but otherwise I've resignated to digital. The physical PC market crumbled because it can't provide the same convenience as digital storefronts, and that's what matters to most consumers.

Interesting, the limited color is what drew me in because I am extremely fatigued of the overuse of magic glowing stuff and neon colors in fantasy settings. I can see how Hollow Knight is the other extreme, though. It's a matter of taste.

I playtested a similar RO-inspired game recently and noticed that I like to switch to WASD for precision movement, and to free up my mouse for skill-targeting. It's definitely a nice option to have.
