Millions continue to face threats, harassment, intimidation, and rampant red-tagging. A total of 163 individuals have been jailed due to their political affiliations, including several from Southern Mindanao.

Long-time labor leader and KMU organizer William Lariosa was forcibly disappeared by elements of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) in April 2024 in southern Bukidnon. Despite persistent search and public pressure, Lariosa remains missing to this day.

We strongly believe this is part of the systematic efforts by the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC) and state security forces (i.e. the military and police) to intimidate activists, organizers and their families into submission.

This is not an isolated case. Argilles and his Davao residence was surveilled and visited by uniformed and non-uniformed military personnel several times in 2024.
