The excitement of going to Grandma’s for Christmas made the hour-plus car ride go by as fast as the snowy countryside scenery passed out the window. My young brain mixed the two well-known songs “Jingle Bells” and “Over the River and Through the Woods” into “Dashing through the snow, in a one-horse open sleigh, over the river and through the woods, to Grandmother’s house we go.”

I remember... smacking the ball soundly. Briefly watching it soar into the outfield before tossing the bat, running hard to first, over running it looking out field to see who has the ball . Timing was everything.  Seeing no one had the ball I would pick up speed and run to second. A gave a quick glance over the shoulder before chancing a run to third.
