Delighted to worship & commune w/ my family at Centenary UMC today. Much going on around us, but here at the loaf & cup, “the still point of the turning world… there the dance is… Except for the point, the still point / There would be no dance, and there is only the dance.”

40 years ago today I was just into my second semester of seminary at @CTSIndy, in this hallway. Came out of a meeting planning our first blood drive & someone said “have you heard?” They told me about Challenger; drove to my apartment to watch on a 12 inch b&w TV the coverage.

If you’re cold, they’re cold. Bring ‘em in.

8-10 inches likely here in Licking Co. OH but it's the cold coming behind that'll make this challenging. Snow stops Sunday evening, but the lows get into Minus territory on Monday, & stay there a few more days. Open cupboards for sinks on outside walls, check on your neighbors.

Tomorrow night! As much about Licking County history as Granville, in 1776 (well, 1773 thru 1820, but it will make sense). All are welcome!

Preaching a series on “Discipleship” at Woodside Presbyterian Church up through the start of Lent: tomorrow, Jan. 18 at 10:30 am from John 1:29-42, "Andrew was the first” is where we’ll start. Hat tip Stephen Stookey for the image from the Sea of Galilee:

You want hellfire & brimstone? Scammers who target church people in the name of ministers to siphon gift cards purportedly to help people in need? Those people are gonna have some splainin’ to do when they meet Jesus.

"Prancer" on @tcmtv.bsky.social at 12 EDT. Filmed in Three Oaks MI & LaPorte IN w/ house in New Carlisle IN & landscapes at Starved Rock State Park IL - a movie done all around my childhood even if I was 27 in seminary when made. Sam Elliott, Abe Vigoda, & Cloris Leachman: what's not to like?

1944 is when Norman Rockwell painted this view of Chicago's Union Station, but it's how I remember Christmas shopping in downtown Chicago in the mid-to-late 1960s.

And it's been a long December and there's reason to believe
Maybe this year will be better than the last
I can't remember all the times I tried to tell myself
To hold on to these moments as they pass
