I used to get paid to stand around and look pretty. These days I talk about being a parent a lot.
Doing math homework with the kidlet is an exercise in emotional regulation.

I have to remind him that he’s still learning and homework is only a measure of his current ability at a particular thing and NOT a measure of who he is.

I miss old Twitter space. Private account, a good collection of trusted friends to keep up with, and no constant fear of speaking my thoughts into that space of internet.
There’s too much linked on Metaverse for me to use Threads regularly and the no-longer-Twitter is a hard no.

Our dishwasher died last night. It was 15yrs old; a good run. Without much thought, we bought a new one that C. will install today.

I’m grateful that that’s something we can do. Just drop $$$ to fix something. It feels like not long ago where I would have been panicking over the cost.

Told the Kidlet I needed to work on his Switch Lite since there will be a bunch of updates for the holiday.
Really, it’s so I can have his new Switch 2 ready to go for tomorrow morning.

Already got a screen protector, memory card, controller grips and a case. I wanted to be absolutely prepared.

Lessons learned from making Sonic themed birthday cupcakes:
- piping bags are a massive time suck and pain in the ass
- trying to get just the right shade of blue is harder than it looks
- icing in general sucks to work with. It’s so messy.

Good news: my kid did not care.

Since it’s almost the solstice and kidlet’s birthday, the photo apps are reminding me of every other birthday we’ve celebrated.

I love how happy kidlet is in every image/video. Excited, bouncy, and just happy to exist in a space full of love.

It makes me feel like we’re doing ok as parents.

Another project done! This one is for the kidlet’s birthday. Most of the build came from online but I added the icing band to help hold it together.

Short version: I made this!

Slightly longer explanation: earlier in the year, I designed a logo and custom stamp for C’s blacksmithing work. Decided to try making this shadow box as a Christmas gift.

New ink! Courtesy of the amazing @ameliamooretattoos.bsky.social

They're all my favorites but Purrloin and Furret hold special meaning and Espurr is just adorably introverted.

Remember that college humor video about printers being assholes? Still applies. I’ve spent the last hour seriously considering percussive maintenance.

Hello mother. The dog and I agreed you were away from the bedroom too long. We're here to... supervise.
-Things I'm pretty sure Alpha is thinking

But seriously, I cannot go anywhere without her or Karma following like not so silent shadows. They'll give up their comfy bed spaces to be near me.

Every year, I think I know how I'm going to do Awesome Con. Every year, we find something else entirely that catches our attention. Artists, panels, celebrities, book signings. I always appreciate the diversity of offerings.

Tried my hand at painting miniatures. A time consuming task that allows me to hyper focus on details? Yeah... Safe to say I enjoyed it. :)

Cost billed of having my tubes removed: $17,000

We're fortunate to have insurance that's covering most of that, but I'm still baffled at the cost of healthcare in the US.

I want the doctors to be paid what their worth. I also don't want anyone to have to deal with medical debt.

Got my tubes removed today. Immediate recovery sucks right now, but it’s worth it.

Karma is a pretty pretty princess who hates sitting on hard flooring. So of course, I pull the bench cushion down for her. Then she gets mad I’m not sitting on the floor with here. So here we are.

In true cat fashion, Alpha has decided she'd rather sleep on my lap vs the pricy heated cat bed I got specifically for her.

There’s “I love you” and then there’s “I’m taking over planning our trip. All the info is on the shared calendar and in your email.”

I see signs like these too often and all I want to do to is put a sticker or a large sign next to it of @wilwheaton.net pointing at readers with very large text of "Don't be a dick!"

Somehow aging liquor came up as a conversation point with the kidlet. Decided to let him smell some of the bottles we have so he’d understand the concept better.

Un-aged clear liquor: “Smells like medicine”
Walnut liquor: “Honey and medicine.”
Aged whiskey: “Blackberry medicine.”

C. has an outpatient surgery that I need to drive him home from. The front desk gave me a small keychain tag with a number on it to turn in when I have to get him.

"Does he just sit in the lost and found if I lose his ticket?"

Airpods are definitely my most useful tool lately. Need a way to handle crowded areas? Airpods w. low volume white noise.

Drown out the volume and sound reverberation + the one obnoxious parent next to me that insists on screaming at the indoor football venue? Airpods.

Decided to queue for two hours for the local card shop open. Made some friends in line which was nice. Everything was marked double over MSRP, so I spent too much on pieces of paper.

I have these at least so that's something.

Kinda miss Twitter space a bit. What it used to be, not what it is currently. Now everyone's a bit scattered and it's been tricky to figure out how to keep up with it

Related to previous: I really enjoy *good* use of accessibility functions because they benefit so many. E.G: wheelchair ramps on sidewalks are also useful for strollers or carts. Closed captions (which I think should be opt-out vs opt-in) are great for those of us that can’t catch accents well.
