Some words from Isabella Tree on the passing of Jane Goodall:

"What a tower of strength and inspiration Jane Goodall was (and a shining example of nominative determinism!). We’ll miss her compassionate voice and calm wisdom...

"They should also have a dedicated biodiversity financing facility."

The good news is that NGOs and the private sector have innovated to improve biodiversity financing tools, but these won’t be effective unless backed by regulations and incentives. National governments must take concrete steps...

We invited name suggestions and had lots of ideas offered... thanks in particular to Linda Robson-Burrell, Emma Tozer, Colleen Snyman, Harriet Masters and Mrs M. They all suggested at least one of the names we chose.

BREAKING GNAWS! 🚨

Earlier in the summer, we said that two beaver kits had been born at Knepp this year. We were wrong. We have three!

And we've named them Birch, Beech and Bay.

It's the most kits our original beaver pair have ever had in one year.

Have you heard the latest episode of our podcast, where Isabella Tree interviews Mick Crawley about the incredible summer it's been for ragwort?

It's much maligned, but actually it's a powerhouse for wildlife.

What shall we name our two new beaver kits? Comment your suggestions below!

We're looking for 'B' names. Brooke and Banksy are the two adults. Buster and Booster were the 2023 kits. Bach and Bracken were last year’s kits.

📽️Two of the kits' older siblings earlier this month, aged one and two.

We're generationally behind 🦫

Over 103 years ago, at dawn on 6 July 1922, two Eurasian beavers slipped into Sweden’s River Bjurälven and quietly launched one of Europe’s first beaver restoration projects.

Our adult beaver pair have had three sets of two kits for the last three summers, bringing the size of their family to eight. We look forward to watching these two grow into the formidable ecosystem engineers that their parents and older siblings are.

Introducing the two newest members of the Knepp team! 🦫🦫

Two beaver kits have been born this summer. Here they are playing together outside of their lodge. Their small size and extra buoyancy confirms they are new! We think they're 6 - 8 weeks old.

We are so pleased to announce that with a total of 45 chicks ringed this year @kneppwilding.bsky.social, most have taken their first flights!

Here is the moment the first live cam chick fledged!

Now, this year's chicks are honing their flying skills and preparing to migrate soon.

The male gathers small bundles of willow and takes them back to the lodge. When the kits are about six weeks old, they’ll move on from milk to plants. And this freshly regrown willow could be the perfect food for them...

Are there new beaver kits in the lodge? We still don’t know for sure, but there are signs… 🦫

A few months ago, the beavers felled a willow. Now, they’re harvesting its new growth. They've done this previously when the older female has been in the lodge nursing kits.
