Am I wrong that the afterlife is binary? Either hell or heaven. And according to John 3:16 the only path to heaven is through Jesus? Either way if you worship him you get eternal life and if you don't then you die at the very least. This is cult behavior.

Who knows what Jesus actually taught because the only evidence is from a book that was written a half century after his death by people of the faith that were not there.

Jesus rejected all authority but his. His threat was for eternal torment and isolation from the cult after telling them to get rid of all possessions and cut ties with non-cult friends and family. Sounds like a cult. And that was from the book written by the cult. What stuff did they leave out?

For one the only evidence that we have is from a book written about a half century after his death and was very likely whitewashed by his followers. According to Jesus if you did not meet his demands you get eternal torment. He asked his followers to give up earthly posetions and cut ties with fam.
