The rubber ring does not interfere with the sound because it creates a "luft" (space) between the hard surface (in this case, the floor) and the bowl. The material is such that it does not muffle/mute the sound.

Wow, that's amazing! Adding water definitely alters the sound of the bowl. That must have been a really fun project. I am glad to hear you enjoyed it, and am happy to see that you still appreciate listening to singing bowls.

There are two types: silicone (smooth for "swirling") and velour-covered one (for striking). I alternate the two types, depending on what type of sound I would like the bowl to produce.

Just a regular carpet, but each bowl has its own rubber ring to "sit" on
While it does not show in the photo, the bowls are slightly elevated from the carpet/floor, which makes the sound more resonant.
