In my heart I know the perfect answer lies Somewhere In The Middle™️, but I have entirely too much going on to pretend I can sit down and craft my perfect 4e-inspired card based heartbreaker rpg without someone backing up a dumptruck full of money to my door first.

My gripe so far with Draw Steel has been that our group kinda grinds to a halt outside of combat. Daggerheart sorta solves that by never having a real line between combat and the other pillars of play, but as a result it gets a bit muddy as to when your abilities and skills actually come into play

Like let's be clear, I'm a OSR sicko who thinks level 1 of 5e is one of the most exciting moments in that game because it's basically a horror game. I also think level 1 in a game with 4e DNA is great because you have so many cool little abilities and interactions you can do already

The fact that Wizards never even tried to make a video game during 4e remains the greatest bag fumble in history, like you had everything there already you just had to put it together.

Between playing Draw Steel and Daggerheart, I feel retroactively justified for all the pain I had to go through in the peak 4e "Let's just play Pathfinder instead" era of games. The 4e model of action was always good!

Here's a 3 minute video of a fox following a star in the style of classic Disney. The fox changes appearance in every frame and every part of this scene is so static and lifeless that you'd never know we boiled four whole glaciers to generate this.
