Meanwhile, with the male leaders, we get bizarre changes like the English version REMOVING the nervous swallow that Hien does just before he turns to meet you for the first time, presumably to make him seem more confident. FF locs have a history of similar things — see Haurchefant and Ardyn in FFXV.

…but in English, the script carries her uncertainty and timidity to the end, translating many of her lines like “ummm idk! Maybe we should do this! I dunno tho!” despite her being beautifully confident in the original script. What the English script does to both Lyse and Minfilia is very clearly

This trend of eliminating anything from the script that favors a capable, confident female leader gets even stronger jn Stormblood. In JP, Lyse has a very clear character arc where she gradually grows into a capable leader, and it’s clearly reflected in the way she speaks…

Rather than reducing her to a willing messenger, in JP here Alphinaud says Minfilia was a strong woman who never stopped moving forward, and she shouldn’t be reduced to this role as a mere messenger. The English script around the Word of the Mother subject is all awful but this especially sucks
