The thing about living in Seattle for almost a decade, is that I never got seasonal depression.

My depression is not affected by seasons. It's strong depression, quality depression, man-made in Poland over many years to highest standard. Not something that'd be swayed by little bit of darkness.

Definitely, games became easier & more accessible to get into. Perhaps the "demand" increase is just lower than "supply"?

Also distribution is uneven, heavily skews towards big hitters like few liveservice games (pareto principle in action).

I think it's true for other art forms too (ie Spotify).

I've come to think of all my game ideas as a venn diagram of 3 circles: thing I want to make, thing people will pay money for, thing I have resources to make

Also, games bring in more revenue than other art forms now (like Movies or Music), so there's a lot more investment in the space (maybe not as much in current climate, but overall)

The caveat is that half of it is mobile, and from the rest, most of it goes to just several liveservice big hitters

My first indie game was an isometric 2D adventure that could be beat in half an hour and took me ~2 years using C++ and working with several artists.

Now I could make it in like 2-4 months in Unity + getting assets from the Asset Store, and it would have more features and support more platforms.

My anecdotal take: mix of games/nerd culture growing in popularity and getting destigmatized, plus constantly lowering barrier to entry

Games are no longer uncool boy hobby that gets you bullied (ex: majority of Pokemon Go players are women) + you can whip up games in mere months with Unit/Godot

Tbh, this is how I felt about "Sea of Stars", dropped into a world with no exposition to assume role of two blank-slate characters, and somehow I'm supposed to care about any of it?

And I pretty much unlocked all skills 10hrs in and realized there's 20 more hours of the game left, oof...
