The studio I worked at shut down in the months after I resigned because they were indie trying to buy their way to success with a very big flashy game they lacked the budget to make. Highguard is super impressive for a first release for a studio but it had to have been incredibly expensive to make.

Two weeks is simply not enough time to be a death sentence unless they were already in financial trouble before release. They couldn't have done better financially with a shadow drop. Geoff definitely didn't do them any favours but I can't see how they would have gotten a better financial result.
