Hello to those who found me here. I am a particle physicist at CERN working on the @lhcb.bsky.social experiment and on future accelerators. In particular I worry about sustainability.

Why do you implicitly assume that grad school only leads to academia? Most PhD go elsewhere. And they learn valuable skills on the way.

The UK still needs to pass the law in parliament, afaik. The only difference is that after that's done the Swiss can ask for a vote. In the UK not.

The previous attempt got rejected because it wanted to outsource it to private companies. Administration and parliament were surprisingly fast in getting a new proposal together.

The cantonal property tax on second homes was the reason a vote got triggered. But the real topic was the suppression of the tax on the imputed rental value of primary homes.
