Maybe we'll start calling everyone over a certain age a 'boomer' and everyone under a certain age 'Gen Z'. Would certainly make it easier rehashing tired old articles. In 100 years, there will be articles explaining the origins of 'millennial' and eventually they'll be official ABS categories.

There was always something special about watching him operate in Senate Estimates. He'd start off with a couple of easy questions (the kind of things he already knew or could easily look up) to lure them in, slowly build up a head of steam...

The Bill highlights the complexities of tinkering with HELP - in certain cases: "the amount to be re-credited to the person’s HELP balance under that section is an amount equal to 80% of the amounts of HECS-HELP assistance that the person received for the unit of study."

For those playing along at home "Location-preferred HELP debtor" is people entitled to a reduced HELP debt for working in a regional or remote area after graduation.

On international students: "[Using them as a cash cow is] not a good business model, but ... a large part of the funding for especially regional universities comes from [them]. So a more sensitive conversation needs to be had, and we'll work with the sector and the government about that."
