Also dug the 93 WCW stuff so may do Halloween Havoc that year instead. Maybe both.

Forgot to add how cool it is that they interviewed the main event winner & his family backstage post show, and had other babyfaces Sting & Steamboat do celebratory interviews as well. Idk much about 94 WCW yet but i imagine Flair probably turned heel and screwed those guys over.

Next time i wont do an event glorifying weirdo Ric Flair but It’s hard to avoid Flair when covering WCW’s biggest events. The match was great & watching this show was a fun way to understand 1993 WCW. Flair, Vader, Sting, Rude, Boss Man, the Rhodes, Austin, Regal, Steamboat… Such a stacked roster.

The show was carried by the main event though, and yes i probably overrated Rude vs Boss Man but i actually liked it, especially for being 9 minutes since they didnt need to go over 10. Overall i give the show a 6.5/10*

1. Flair/Vader
2. Rude/Boss Man
3. Regal/Steamboat

1993’s Starrcade XI had its moments. From a classic main event that everyone should see, to some skips. From 2 good midcard title matches ft. legends, to an (unmasked) Shockmaster. Schiavone & Ventura are great. The segments are good. Wish i knew the story to some other matches.

MAIN: For WCW World Heavyweight Championship: (C) Vader (w/ Harley Race) vs Ric Flair
Career on the line, Flair enters to a tremendous pop. Big match feel. Great shine/heat dynamic. Simple, emotional story. Surprise finish. Expected but welcomed result. Classic match. 8.5/10*

7th match: For WCW World Tag Team Titles: (C) The Nasty Boys (Brian Knobbs / Jerry Sags) (w/ Missy Hyatt) vs Sting / Hawk
Some sweet mullets in the crowd. Sting & Hawk made a great duo. Nasty’s were decent. Goes too long. Weird ending. But at times better than expected. 5.5/10*
April 30, 2025 at 11:26 PM
6th match: For WCW International Heavyweight Championship: (C) Rick Rude vs Boss Man
Slow-paced start. Boss gets shine with some great punches. He slams & throws Rude all over in & outside the ring. Rude targets Boss Man’s knees & barely survives. 7/10*

5th match: 2/3 Falls for WCW United States Title: (C) Dustin Rhodes vs Steve Austin (w/ Col. Parker)
Back to that strong midcard. These lads had great chemistry. It was a banger til the dumb OTTR rules and lights kept cutting out. The final fall was weird too. 6.5/10*

The 3rd match was my favorite so far, easily the best. Would be S tier if it had been on tv, then had a no-time limit match on this ppv. The 4th match, just like the 1st, exists. Cactus Jack deserved better.

Mean Gene is on the stage. He asks us to call in to vote whether or not all future WCW Title matches should be 2/3 Falls (common in lucha). Gene now interviews Nascar’s Kyle Petty (Ventura mentions he has no relation to Tom) about the main event. “Ric is at the top of his game like Michael Jordan..”

4th match: Cactus Jack / Maxx Payne vs Shanghai Pierce / Tex Slazenger
Tony & Jesse are great on commentary during this. That’s about all it has. Why book Jack in this match at Starrcade just 2 months after the Halloween Havoc Death match vs Vader?? Jack & Maxx win a boring hard hitter. 5/10*

3rd match: For WCW TV Title: (C) William Regal vs Ricky Steamboat
WCW’s midcard was stacked in 93. TS & JV get over how this is a Boxing Day grudge match. They lock up a bunch but every-time they counter. The final 3 mins are exciting. Regal retains by time limit draw. 6.5/10*

Back to outside the arena we see the limo with Flair and Gene pull up led by police escort. Ventura: “From this angle you’d think it’s Bill Clinton coming,” “Well in this town, Ric Flair is more popular than Bill Clinton.”

The 1st match was a standard tag match. We didnt get much of 2CS’s signature moveset. Overall it didnt suck but just exists. The 2nd match was laughable. How did SM beat a 400 lb guy with 1 body slam after getting cut off by both of them? Would be 2/10* if he still had the helmet.
April 30, 2025 at 11:26 PM
2nd match: Awesome Kong (Not the legendary women’s wrestler. Also w/ tag partner King Kong. Not the legendary ape) vs The Shockmaster (Doesn’t have the stormtrooper helmet anymore atp)
Kong’s gang up on Shockmaster before it starts. Shockmaster hits AK with a body slam ftw. 1/10*

Back to the anxious limo ride with Flair & Mean Gene. Is Vader going to murder him & his family later? Not if it gets in the way of Ric Flair’s 11th World Championship reign! I forgot to mention his career is on the line if he loses here as well.
April 30, 2025 at 11:26 PM
Our 1st match: Pretty Wonderful (Paul Orndorff / Paul Roma managed by The Assassin) vs 2 Cold Scorpio / Buff Bagwell managed by MOTY Teddy Long
Faces shine on Roma. Heels get heat on Bagwell. 2CS comes back vs Orndorff only to get a loaded headbutted by Assassin. PW wins. 5/10*

Heading to the venue, Mean Gene is with Flair questioning him about what he is getting himself into, leaving his family (including a young Charlotte Flair in tears) behind. “…I’ve gotta prove above all else, to myself, that I’m the man I think I’ve been my entire career.”
April 30, 2025 at 11:26 PM
Show opens, we are at the Independence Arena in Flair’s hometown Charlotte, North Carolina. Commentators Tony Schiavone & Jesse Ventura greet us. They show a clip of Vader & Harley Race hyped af showing up to the arena early, in contrast to Flair somberly leaving his family at home a few miles away.
