Spotted on my way home, past the marina, while listening to the Big Read. 🐋

Wait! Team! Wikipedia has determined that the Moby Dick Coin is "trivial"! And does not meet standards of "notability" and may be removed from the site!! Uncultured bufoons!!🐋

If we're gonna start a Starbuck thread, I just have to include a shoutout to Ethan Hawke for a pretty good Starbuck in an otherwise lackluster Moby Dick (William Hurt as Ahab didn't quite do it for me) 🐋

Oh. OOOOOH. Now that's a hot Ishmael. Maybe too hot? Like, he's gonna have to try real hard to seem goofy. I believe in him though.

Counterpoint: a more recent Tom Hardy could also be an excessively hot/doomed Starbuck. 🐋

BTW - I mentioned I downloaded that CLR James book on Melville that @chanda.blacksky.app posted about and I'm not far into it, but, fam, it goes hard. 🐋

(It's called Mariners, Renegades and Castaways)

Yes! 🐋

(Also, I am also really bad a at this. I have crossed that line into being Too Old To Know Actors Now and have the opposite of IMDB-brain).

First nom - off the cuff - Paul Mescal.
I can see him as both a frustrated young school master, and enveloped in the strong arms of a savage harpoonneer. It's in the eyes. 🐋

Seemed the most fitting beer for my post-shift drink as I sit down to try to catch up on reading 🐋

I was curious as to why the blue whale is only mentioned at the end of Cetology when Ish rattles off a misc. list, but actually the little-known Sulphur-Bottom whale was the blue.

Also I did not know that blue whales have yellowish bellies.

Please enjoy this blue whale skull from wikipedia.🐋

Uh-oh. Cetology art.

In this case, handmade art books, in folio, octavo and duedecimo sizes, of course. 🐋

Here is another dog that is not mine. Little old man. Named Finn. Looks grumpy but it’s a LIE. If you start petting, you mustn’t stop. You. Must. Not.

Here is a dog that is not mine. Old lady, named Pixie. Maybe 2 teeth. Has to wear a hoodie to keep warm. Smaller than the cat. 2-3 thoughts max.

🐋 Learning Tashtego is from Martha's Vineyard, I wondered about his village, and am pleased to learn the Wampanoag of Gay Head (now renamed Aquinnah) are still there!

Please enjoy this photo of the stoic looking tribesman Amos Haskins who was a whaling captain of the Massasoit (1851) (link below)
