I looked up prices of gaming laptops and handhelds, for comparison.

I saw an 800 buck laptop... then realized it is on sale. Normally 1400!

Nintendo, Valve, and Apple all getting a lotta milage out of doing very little while everyone else does severe price hikes. So tired of this clown market.

You can get Discord from their App Store, but only in desktop mode.
I think they made that alternative voice chat system because Discord isn’t available to all the countries Steam operates in, and because it’s a simpler system to just add.

I think that they make it to have an alternative open, both to force some concessions from Microsoft and because they are one of the few companies that can afford to keep some tech wizards on hand.
Windows is unlikely to disappear, but having a backup system helps should it falter badly.

As someone who has used a Steam Deck as a primary computer, yeah, my budget is at most around $800 if they want me to buy it by 2027.
I only have two games that I want to play that don’t cooperate on my Steam Deck, and a Mac Mini is a solid value for $600.
