That’s absolutely right. Stephanopoulos misstated what the jury found legally. But his error neither could have harmed Trump’s reputation nor should have resulted in damages for defamation.

The ABC News settlement makes zero sense from a legal standpoint. It assumes there is a moral or reputational difference between forcibly penetrating a woman’s vagina with fingers and doing so with a penis. It also assumes that Trump has a reputation that could suffer damage.
